'69 2000 at Mecum Auction in Houston

Post by jamesw »

Another beautiful Roadster will be crossing the auction block next week here in Houston:

http://www.mecum.com/auctions/lot_detai ... tryRow=657" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

It looks familiar but can't recall whose it is. Anyone here?

Cheers

I'm all for price appreciation, but not sure about hp appreciation. If this sells, will mine get 150?

I noticed that too. Also that they used the word "original" a few times...

Only 150hp if he had the Solex's. Very nice car though.

I don't like the trunk treatment, but otherwise a very nice car.
I'll start the guessing at $29,000!

I have no opinion. The wheels look familiar though.

Love the wheels, they look deeper than most I've seen, but may be the angle. It looks very familiar, think it sold on Ebay last year in California?

They look similar to my wheels, but more dished? The company that made mine was Hands Wheels. They were aftermarket in the '60's. I've seen them on Cobras, Sunbeams and Corvairs.

I'll take a guess... I think it will stay under 20k and sell for around $17,500.

Incorrect black paint, bed liner or whatever in trunk and engine room always concern me on a higher end example like this. Paul

I think the black engine bay and trunk might take a few dollars off....$50,599.00 is my guess.

Have to agree with Sid on this one.
"Nice daily driver". (at best!)
The closer you look the worse it gets.
BIG trunk floor gas tank crack.
Decidedly Tacky engine room. Free form gas line routing. Missing fan shroud sections.Throttle return spring?
"Snake" breather hose to air filter housing. Hose for front carb overflow pipe. Odd vacuum line setup.
Megaphone, but someone stole the resonator!
Black plastic door mirrors!

Be interesting to see if some sucker (sorry, i mean bidder) pays too much for this one.

The big "VALUE" question. For me, $12k max.

It makes the Amelia Island roadster look worth the $46K.

Ted.

Guys please stop devaluing the cars by pointing out the flaws on this one car. :D

I killed the value of 67 2000s personally last year when pointing out the flaws on one car.

We need to talk about how great and perfect this one is and how it's better than a show quality Healey or no one will ever buy or restore them ever again.

Thanks for your cooperation.

For an example to counter Mark's sarcasm - has anyone pointed out anything NICE on the car?

1) The wheels look good
2) Bias ply spare is kinda cool
3) Paint looks great - at least in the pictures
4) Steering wheel is sweet.

Now that is the way to positively comment on a car - it's just a different point of view where you look at the good vs nit picking the bad.

Like - who really cares that he routed the fuel line in front of the radiator? That's a fix for a Datsun design error. And the throttle return spring? If the heat shield is there for those in the know that is about a 30 second fix.

The car certainly has some flaws, but every time someone posts a car up here it's like a competition to see who can point out the most non-stock items. I think pointing out the trunk crack is a good idea because that's a legitimate warning for someone who might buy the car and may not know better.

Cheers
