Dash pot oil
I have none in my carbs, and I can't find a reference that says how much to add. Does anyone know? Thanks

RE:Dash Pot Oil
It is a very small amount. Just fill up the tubes to around and 1/8" from the top. If you get too much it will just overflow and not cause any problems. Too much is better than not enough. It cannot be more than several teaspoons of oil. The oil helps smooth out the acceleration.

How much is too much? A bit of overflow will hurt nothing. If you put a whole can in and fill up the domes then you have a problem. Are you sure your sputtering was caused by too much oil in the dampners? I find that hard to believe but then that is my own personal opinion.

I put way too much oil in the pots my first time topping them up. My carbs did sputter for a little bit, and I got a whole bunch of white smoke coming out the exhaust. Everything was okay in less than 5 minutes though.
FWIW there is a belief in the sport import world that if you dump a half can of seafoam down a vacuum line it will clean out your vacuum system. produces the same sort of thick white smoke from the exhaust.

From the Bob Sharp 1600 Competition Manual:
"For full competition, remove the oil from the carburetor piston..."
Just something to think about.

If you read the Bob Sharp manual in detail (not sure if it is in both the 1600 and 2000 versions), they clearly state that the idle will be erratic and that it is not recommended for street use. The oil is a dampener to help control the mixture. If you use different weights, you get different effects.
