I meant to encourage restoration of Datsun Roadsters. The best way I know to do that is to seek out opinions from this group that restoration makes good economic sense.

If making good economic sense was an issue in car ownership, then not one single person would ever drive off the lot in say an SLS AMG Black Series Mercedes.. Because while I was parked next to one at that car show a few weeks ago, the owner sold his 4 year old one for a loss of about $130k dollars.. Of course, he said the reason he was selling it was because he was a week away from taking delivery of a new one..

Even on the $ 50000 car, I never got a guesstimate on what it cost to restore to that level. A big factor if you are interested in ultimate value.

For what it's worth, I insured the datsun I own through American collectors classic car insurance. I'm allowed 2500 miles a year of driving enjoyment and set the agreed upon value at 25k. That figure was not questioned at all. I am the second owner and the car is largely unrestored. I know I am a roadster newb and likely younger than most roadster owners but I feel that "nostalgic Japanese cars" are gaining in popularity with many types of people. Not just car people.

Otherwise cars in general are terrible investments!
Unless they are old Toyota 4wds. Only vehicle around that can get beat to crap and gain in value! Lol

If you think my point is solely or even primarily about money, you miss my point.

My point is to incentivize preservation and restoration of Datsun Rosdsters, which is much easier to do when that makes good economic sense. Sure, some will spend money out of passion, but too many others will leave the cars to rust.

Awareness of real value, promoted by those who know, is a very good thing. We should embrace that, I think.

The push back, however, does not come as a surprise. That sentiment is partly why I started this thread. I get the spirit of it, which is to say that the love and passion for these cars shouldn't be about money. I really don't disagree with that.

The love and passion has its own extrinsic value. Still, wouldn't it be easier to spend the money to restore these cars and to maintain them knowing you weren't losing money. If you disagree with that, I have some wonderful property you will fall in love with for sale at twice its value.

I say spend what money you have on your car that you can afford. If becomes more than its worth ,than oh well .People go on vacation all the time and spend alot of money and at the end of it all are great memories = Priceless . Sometimes you can put a price on something that can give so much enjoyment and look good doing it . I feel sorry for the people who dont have a roadster .

From what I'm reading the sentiment is if we tell people these are valuable cars, they will become valuable cars and people will restore them.

Haven't people been restoring them for 30 years now regardless of value? Even though there's less of them around, more will get restored? I don't see the logic.

I'm like petite women, some people like big girls. If a group of people keep telling me big girls are the most desirable, that doesn't magically make it so.

67 corvettes are not worth big money because a group of owners got together 20 years ago and declared it to be so.

I guess my main question is who are you hanging around with that is talking bad about these cars? Every Roadster owner I know already praises them and enjoys talking about them. I've never had an owner pull up and say "this car sucks"
