OK, photos of the parts. Will go shorter than needed. The green labels were in the box, I think they are the OEM 510 part #'s

So after opening the other boxes I see there are two long tie rods and two short tie rods. Then of course there is the left hand and right hand. So from just the part numbers I have no idea which goes where. I went ahead and bought them but now there is how do you put them on?
Also the original roadster tie rod is angled a bit on the one end.

Curtis, If I read this right, get a left and a right and after installing the locking nut thread the ends onto the sleeve (rod) 2 or 3 turns. Set them to the length of the originals by rotating the sleeve so they pull in evenly , install and then get an alignment. The slight offset shouldn't be a problem, but we can't tell until it's on the car. 15 degrees here, so it will be a while before I can try it on mine.

I am not Sure how to best install on a roadster but on a 510, the longer tie rod is the "inner" tie rod going to the cross link and the smaller one is the "outer" going to the wheel hub.Curtis wrote:So after opening the other boxes I see there are two long tie rods and two short tie rods. This is the adjuster sleeve that will work with the 510 tie rod ends.
Moog part number ES3089S
This part is 8.42 inches long vs. the 510 sleeve 6.53 inches. Correct thread pitch and size.

Buy the 620 center link. Have the center adjuster cut down to match the Roadster length cut new threads on the end and your good to go.

That's the one I remember someone posting years ago. Looks like the same part for 72-79 Moog DS846. Is the steel soft enough to thread it with a die, or do you need a lathe? We turned mine down a bit on the lathe to make it easier on the die to cut the threads.

Center link Rod with 510 ends.
I got an estimate from 1 machine shop. In order to make it cost effective I would have to order 200 minimum to get it under $50. You can buy the Moog DS 846 for $40 to $50 ( I paid 38.97, free shipping.). Then you have to add a 14 mm x 1.5 threading die at $20-$25. So you are up to about $75. The tie rod ends run about $10-12 plus shipping. Comes out about the same but you don't have to worry about messing up the threads. You would also have to buy a couple nuts.
Problem is when you go industrial the dies for the machine cost a lot.

I've been following this thread on tie rods, checked the specs for moog parts/replacements - everything looks/sounds great but noticed that original side rod joint faces seem to have a 10-15 degree deflectionfrom the rod centerline. If true, could this be or has it been a problem? Just a little concerned.

If you go to a 3 piece side rod, i.e. 2 ball joints and threaded rod, you can orient the ball joints to match that of the OEM single piece side rod.
