Put my grenade away, found my problem, and finished carb tuning.... for now. Granted this wasn't all done today, but since my last post. It was a faulty (new) part, which sort of made me feel better, but it was still 6 hours of hair pulling before I figured it out. Faulty float valve, would occasionally stick and run my second carb bowl dry, then free up and run fine for a while. Would have been easier to find if I didn't have so many variables in this car at the same time. Oh well, 1 step forward, 2 steps back.

Nice job. Looks well done.

I found it was beneficial to take a piece of scrap and put it on the door behind the door panel. It makes the door sound more solid when the door is shut. I didn't use much. I think it was around 5" or so in some kind of 4 sided shape in the largest empty space you can find.

Finished off installing the sound insulation today.
I'm not in a hurry to do THAT again

Image
Passenger foot well and tunnel.

Tunnel showing insulation under the heater box and console area.

Drivers foot well. So many angles and fiddly flats, my back will never be the same again

For interest sake, the area you see required 15 sheets @ 660 x 330mm or just on 3.2SqM with a little left over.
Haven't done the door skins or the boot floor........yet.

Now to move on to the interior vinyl kit installation :)

I had the oil changed, an inspection done and a VIN verification. Off to the DMV next week for the title and plates. I'll be street legal sometime next week. Can't wait !!!

Great news Keith, I know you have really been itching to drive it since I saw you at Christmas.
Enjoy the ride!

Smelly trunk no more!
I noticed by trunk smelling of gas. This was what I had as a fuel filler hose and vent hose:
Image

I checked the lower vent hose beneath the access panel and it was fine so
I replaced the filler and upper vent hoses:
Image

I followed bikermike's(thanks) advice and used the Gates 23930 hose, $19.07 shipped from Amazon. I used fuel hose from the local auto store cut to fit for the vent:

Questions:
-Is the vent hose supposed to be clear? If so, why?
-I noticed when filling the tank gas would come all the way into this vent hose just before pump shutoff, is that normal?
-any recommendations on a nice trunk carpet?

I'll do a fill-up today and report back on odors, hopefully not!

I kind of remember it being clear-ish originally but I also remember it getting brittle. I can't think of a reason unless you would open the trunk while refueling to check the level.

Work on the DSU was put on hold while I made a move. Then, I had shelves to build for the new house. Always a reason. AndyB stopped by to pick up a part and the mere sight of his car, along with the last few day's weather made the coolant flow through my veins. The bride was impressed by Andy's car so I am back on the car.
Today, I attached the radiator hoses, put the overflow tank back in and connected it up. Not a lot, but a (re)start.

Thought I'd chime in as well.

Installed the rear brakes on the project today. Spent some time looking around the forum for how it all goes together. Think I got it together right, though my brake shoes look a litter different. I got them from rockauto. They're the same size except the pad is just the same on all 4 shoes - see picture below. I also installed all the refurbished e-brake assembly parts.

Fixed the charging issue with a new VR which then started overcharging. So redid all grounds , starter,VR and tightened alt and VR screws even more and that seemed to do it.

Picked up another 3 metres of vinyl today, so I moved on to cutting and fitting the trim to the interior: -
Image
I have cut and pasted vinyl to the leading edge of the luggage shelf as well as below the door openings.

Image
Once I get going it shouldn't take long to fit all the vinyl.

Sure is hard on my back though

This work is basically fitting the "major" vinyl kit that some of the vendors offer.

I'd rather not remove the dash so I'll have to position the "A" pillar and dash panels before spraying the adhesive to each part.
Then it will just a matter of unfolding the vinyl back onto the cabin sheet metal
