41 year old soft top - Still works?

Post by datsun65 »

This weekend in Northern Califonria (San Francisco) the weather started to get a bit colder, so I have started looking around for a soft top (just the material) for my 1964 1500.

When I purchased the car I was amazed at the condition of the front wood bow, and the rear chromed bow and side connectors. However, I never paid any attention to the soft top...it looked old, the top was dirty and the rear windows had been cut out..

So I ordered a new top from a convertible shop (great price of only $155)...Yet, I received a message a few days later that the top wasn't available, but for $265...I could have the same top :)

So...I decided to start looking more closely at the current soft top..It is the original canvas styled 1500 top. Except for the missing windows and some minor tears, the top is still workable! I'll need a nice warm 80 degree day to stretch it out a bit more....but with some new windows and some extra stitching...I think I can save the original 41 year old top.

Later next week, I'll get some quotes for attempting to salvage the soft top. Keeping my fingers crossed...
