I BE IN IDAHO!

Post by tech13 »

Falls that is. Idaho Falls. Any other roadster nuts in the area? I believe there is 1 other. Moved up from Ventura, CA and am still unpacking. Hope to get back to the resto when the snow comes in and the wife can't send me out to build the fence.

Will wonders never cease....!!!!!!
Glad to have you here ! Just in time for snow ???
Yes, there are other roadster owners in Idaho Falls. Quite a few roadsters are hidden away in garages and never see the light of day.
A few active owners actually drive their cars a few times a summer.
Looks like you have a 70 1600 ? from the resto photo album.
There is a group of older sports cars who do a Wed evening drive every week in the summer, probably over now for the year.
My son and I are leading a sports car drive to Pocatello for dinner, and then on to Lava Hot Springs for a soak & swim, Sat, Oct 15th.
Last sports car drive scheduled this fall.
Local SCCA auto-x & NHA hillclimbs are done for the year.

I'll send you an email and lets visit sometime & talk roadsters!

You probably already know the SR20DET roadster, (see current avatar at left), it was previously owned and built by Brian Dooley of San Diego. I acquired it about 2 years ago. Have slowly been making improvements, re-built rear brakes, started some bodywork tasks, new Optima battery, installed Momo seats to get my butt closer to the floor and my head below the roll bar, AutoPower roll bar, 5 pt harnesses, re-attaching everything that vibrates loose and falls off, Momo IDEA wheels, new Ecsta 712 street tires, etc.
Ran the roadster at Teton Hillclimb in Sept, car is still a scary beast under full throttle and needs more suspension work to get the handling a little more predictable. Still racing shifter karts at auto-xs, but I'm thinking the roadster will become my hillclimb car, replacing the MR2 (too underpowered for hillclimb races).

Took the Skyline brakes apart in the rear, turned the rotors, shimmed and re-centered the caliper mounting, installed new Hawk pads, brakes work better now, but still don't stop the car as well as I think they should. With brakes this large, it should haul the car to an immediate stop? I still must have an air bubble in the brakes somewhere, or I need a different master cylinder to move sufficient brake fluid to push the 4 pot fronts and dual pot rears? Did get a brake firewall brace, haven't installed it yet.
Haven't broken anymore rear ends. Without a limited slip rear, I am breaking tire traction instead of diffs.... much cheaper this way ?
I also try to avoid the drag strip type sudden launches.
Yeah it's a blast to drive..... longest road trip I've done is about 150 miles.
More cooling from a larger radiator, or an oil cooler, or both, are probably next summer's project.
