Mazda 311 conversion

Post by bontrager_steel »

Thought a few of you might appreciate this. As many people as there are on the forum transplanting newer drivelines into the older chassis, how many have thought about modifying the shell of another vehicle to look like a fairlady?

One of my co-workers gives me his old magazines to skim thru - I just look at the pictures....にほんご は とても むずかしい ですよ!

From the point of view of a designer, the roadsters are one of the best looking cars I have ever seen. The shape is perfect from every angle. There are many other cars that look like the Datsun Roadsters, but there is always something blah about them. There was even a photo posted a week or so ago of a 'roadster graveyard' which I thought each car was beautiful.

I think most people who are very active on this forum would never settle for a look-a-like. You could buy a Rolex for god knows how much or you can get an imitation for $5 from ebay - it depends on how much you like the Rolex brand...

It all boils down to brand loyalty.

The Ducks Garden cars have been posted a couple of times. They did a good job of evoking the roadster feel out of that Eunos. Hey, when the engine swap discussions were ongoing with aplomb, I suggested reskinning a Miata to look like a Roadster. That was before the Ducks Garden car was posted here...

You could reskin a Viper and have a very big nasty Roadster :D

Viper re-skin alternative

At the risk of going even farther off-topic, a Harley builder buddy of mine is in the slow process of grafting a 69 Alfa Spider body onto Corvette C5 running gear.
Same width at door sills, but will require something like a 15" stretch in the cowl area fwd of the windshield.

I always wanted a Suburu BRAT on a Jeep frame, not monster truck looking, just normal Jeep height and 31 or 33" tires. Although having doors might be a safety issue, harder to jump out when it tips over.

That sounds bizzare, all the more reason to always carry a camera
