Its COLD outside!!

Post by 66Roadster »

It will be in the single digits in the South again tonight, which brings up a topic…

What is the coldest temperatures have you driven your Roadster with the top off - and top on???

Top off - about 30ish
Top on - 20 below (in Idaho). Yeah, did not have a piece of cardboard in front of the radiator and it froze solid as a rock...

I was in the high 20s and dropping one night coming home from college. All I had was a tonneau cover. The heater kept my right hand from freezing, but my left hand was stiff on the steering wheel when I stopped at a Waffle House for a cup of coffee. After that stop, I kept both hands low. That was a cold couple of hours!

I saw an ad for one of these in the R&T recently, looks and priced fairly nice for those challenged by the COLD.

Mine has seen falling snow, top up and down.. Don't know actual temperatures because there are no towns around..

It was snowing the day I bought it, driving home from Portland, OR.. and back then the heater was not turned on.. That was cold..

I used to commute in the '68 1600 about 30 miles to college all winter; saw snow, temps in the teens, top up and heater on max. And yeah, I bought it at about this time of year, snow on the ground. Nice to find that it started quickly in cold weather during the test drive.

This morning it was 2 degrees here. Not wind chill. Thermometer. Fahrenheit.

It later warmed to about 23 degrees but the only happy people were the dogs on our afternoon run. Roadster stayed put away.

I think Scott is the only one who has driven thru a Polar Vortex with the top down
Got to be a bit wacky to do that!

In the early 90's my DD broke down and I did not have the money to fix it so I drove my roadster for about 2 weeks in a Minnesota November. It is a long story not worth telling but I had no top for the car at that time. If I recall correctly temps were in the teens. I had a big thrift store wool coat that I wore with a stocking cap, scarf and gloves. More than one person openly laughed at me but I got to work. The heater was actually waaaay better than the car that broke down - a '73 2002 BMW. Man the heater in that thing was almost as bad as a volkswagen…

in the same year, I drove my topless roadster at night across the Rockies in July. I don't know the temp but it was freezing cold. What I do know I wrapped myself in a sleeping bag to keep warm. zipped the foot of the bag open for my head. Can't really say it was fun but it has proven to be memorable!

In November I drove the Datsun around the block at -23 after much warm-up time. The top was up.

Leave it to an Alaskan to trump everyone's cold story. Now if you had the top down I might say that was mighty Canadian of you.

Leave it to a fellow Canadian to try to trump that one!
