Key West at Christmas - awesome!
If the water is warm enough, I recommend taking the Jet Ski tour around the island - a unique perspective.
Merry Christmas!

For those following along, I am somewhat inexplicably still in Florida. Currently in Tampa, working my way up the Gulf Coast before venturing back into AL/GA/etc. Florida is a deceptively big state...I think it's the same illusion as wearing vertical stripes to look skinnier or something, but it's hard to say. In any case, I hope everybody has a great New Year's. :)

I think you found the fountain of youth in Florida... And in every place you have visited... You're driving it!
Happy New Year!

Florida is much maligned by the media for a variety of reasons - the reality is that there is a reason that lots of people retire here...

So the middle of a giant cold snap is probably the wrong time to be considering this, but I'm doing a little route planning and I'm thinking I should modify things to make sure I hit all of the lower 48. I'm only like five states short on the current route, and it wouldn't be awful to make sure I hit KY, MO, KS, OK, and AR. Might even be more interesting to try to do it in the middle of winter. Thoughts? I'm thinking just sort of extending the last swing north/northwest a bit.

Scott,
I would say go for it! Looking at your route, it doesn't look like it would take that much more effort. You can already claim the record for Roadster traveling, but it would be even more impressive to say you hit all 48 states doing it. You should be proud of what you have done.

All of the lower 48 would be indescribable. If you can, you might want to wait until this upcoming nasty has blown through. You don't want to get stuck in the predicted cold. I do not know what, if any is predicted, but snow removal in that part of the world does not really exist.

You could go straight up from New Orleans and hit AR, Little Rock, the Clinton Library, Hwy 7. Also Bob and SleepyZZ ? Roadster dudes, are in AR. Up to Branson, MO , the country version of Las Vegas. Then catch some of KS and into OK not sure what there is to see there. Then down into whatever you want to see in Texas..more Roadster dudes there :)
I'm sure more suggestions will be offered. I agree, hitting all the states is a worthy goal

OK, I'm doing it. One way or another, we will get the entire lower 48 (plus seven out of 10 Canadian provinces (but no Territories)). I may get some new tires in Georgia before it gets too nasty; I'm pretty low on tread depth on three out of four (I put a new one on for that one I flat spotted in Washington state when I broke the ball joint.)

Agree, you could fill in the missing states with a few quick loops between weather systems. If you're going to do something completely pointless, you may as well do it completely.
Are your tires OK for light snow are are they performance treads?

They're BFG G-Force, so they're technically all-season, but after 27,000+ miles (plus whatever was on them when I left), there's not much tread depth left. Maybe some new ones in Atlanta next week.

A set of Falken M&S or another more aggressive tire would help complete the trip safely and not be too expensive.
