It's the 2500 miles on Interstate 80 that could be a bit monotonous
. It says 41 hours, so true, about 4 days. Alternative would be trailer to a point, maybe Salt Lake City and then drive.

It sounds like a Salt Lake City Caravan. Bob could meet here as well.dbrick wrote:It's the 2500 miles on Interstate 80 that could be a bit monotonous. It says 41 hours, so true, about 4 days. Alternative would be trailer to a point, maybe Salt Lake City and then drive.

Re: Solvang or Shasta??
I believe I attended that one! Might have been my first... camped out, community breakfast, discovered the EI distributor mod done by the Napa Valley guy who remains a mystery, met the Bradstock brothers, Ross, and a whole bunch more... what a great time. Can't believe it's 30yrs now... Good Lord, I turned 50 a few days ago! Wow, how the Roadster has shaped my world, guided and created so many friendships and aquantances, led to discoveries about myself, and put soooo many many smiles on my face. This isn't just "a car" to me, it is a huge part of my life. Don't know what that says about me, but I'm good with it. I love my Roadster.

Re: Solvang or Shasta??
I may have to rethink my plan to try to make Solvang this year. I always thought Shasta sounded more fun but Solvang has so many cars. With roadsters being as rare as hens teeth around here I wanted to go where I could see the most cars (and forum members). With so much interest in Shasta this year it might be the meet to go to. Another major benefit of Shasta would be the extra 3 months I would have to finish my car
. For the East Coasters ,California would be a long hard drive. Even taking two weeks wouldn't leave much time for sight seeing, maybe we should start thinking of a meet in middle America every 5 years so most everyone can get together every now and then. ......Mike

Re: Solvang or Shasta??
Shasta held the record for most roadsters for many years at 84 and was only just broken at Solvang couple of years ago. The new and improved Shasta is a lot more do able because April can be a wet cold month for us Pacific North Westerners and July is top down weather. Shasta is the longest running Datsun show in North America. Do not miss this one as its going to be big.

Re: Solvang or Shasta??
First Mt Shasta Datsun Roadster Meet in 1985.
Datrock was inventorying his huge collection of vintage Girly magazines,
(Hey, a guy has got to do something until the Spring thaw! He claims he was looking for old Datsun ads.)
and at the bottom of the box he found the May/June 1985 Datsun Roadster Review magazine
with this 2 page center piece ad for the first Mt Shasta Datsun Roadster Meet (West Coast Meet) in 1985.!
If you expand it, here here are some of the highlights.
Held at the Lake Siskiyou campground. $7 a night.
Registration $5. Pancake breakfast included.
Banquet. $10.
Mountain Air lodge. $33/night.
Ross, how may roadsters at the first meet?

Re: Solvang or Shasta??
Solvang or Shasta..
To me they are almost identical, in that the attraction is I get to go see people I know and meet new people who are interested in the roadster.
Other than that, the big difference is that I see a lot, probably a quarter of the Solvang people around southern California and bay area events I attend. Fewer of those people make the drive up to Shasta.
Both offer your choice of miles and miles of freeway driving, or incredible backroads approaches through amazing scenery.
Both offer you the opportunity to see roadsters in various states from pristine showroom condition to amazing modified cars to survivors to various stages of projects..
Both offer you the opportunity to meet people, make friends, network to help you either maintain, restore, or plan your project.
Both are reasonably priced for what you get, and for the huge amount of work put into gathering this many people in one place with the blessing of the authorities, the business communities, the locals, and most of the participants themselves.
I know both show organizers are listening to the participants to improve the shows every year. They all deserve my thanks for putting on these shows.
