Re: the datsun
I must agree with sid, if you buff, the imperfections (as minor as they may be) will become MORE apparent.
By the way, which Washington?

Re: the datsun
If it was my car, I'd wax it and clean it up big time. Buffing would be a consideration, after I assessed the paint, but knowing me I would do it.
Perhaps use a clay bar on it first? It's amazing what a nice set of brushes and various cleaner/treatments can do to make a real difference.

Re: the datsun
I supposed I used the word buffing too lightly.
I was thinking more of an over the top detail/wax job. There are many imperfections throughout (it's 50 y.o.!) but standing 3ft away it's hard to notice them right away.... I also have some mechanical issues to fix. Thermostat housing bolts broken, water pump shot, pulley was grinding into pump housing. Coolant passages are ugly! Any tips on flushing Coolant passages? Also Radiator needs attention.

And the phenolic Carb spacers are badly deteriorated... I suspect I need to pull the carbs and inspect closer for other issues.

Tonight I plan on tackle get the thermostat housing and possibly pull the carbs. Still need to check distributor too.
