Turbo cooking paint on hood
My SR conversion is not running yet but I'm starting to think about how the hood paint can be protected from the heat of the turbo. The underside of my hood has a layer of painted undercoating which initially I thought would be best removed to help dissipate the heat through the hood then my thinking changed to maybe it should be left on to help protect the hood from the heat.
Any opinions?

Wrap that turbo and/or mount a heat shield above it. That should help. Having it ceramic coated will also help (assuming just the outside surfaces).

Perfect photos to illustrate how we applied the heat shielding on James' car-- it has done a great job of protecting the paint on the hood so far!

Thanks Peter-- it was a great project and an amazing car.
Yes, the retainers arrived and they look great.
Dennis-- you can buy a peel and stick heat shielding like this from Summit, or any race supply shop.

Apparently, you have not had problems with the heat melting the adhesive for the tape. It looks like I would need to remove my under hood undercoating to put on the tape.

Re: Turbo cooking paint on hood
I had a ceramic (zirconium) applied to the turbine housing and DP via a flame-spray process. With just that, no wrap or secondary shielding it cured my wire melting, hood paint bubbling, very bad turbo-radiant-heat problem. YMMV, but it worked for me.
