The S15 6-speed is a dimensionally larger box than the 5-speed. It is 10mm longer than the 5-speed transmission as well. We find that we need to rebuild the x-member when we swap the 6-speeds in as the front legs have to be trimmed quite a bit to clear the back of the trans (more than what we would like).
The 6-speed is wider, and it will contact the passenger side of the transmission tunnel-- we normally rebuild the transmission tunnel on the passenger side to clear the gearbox, and once it is carpeted, you can't tell the mods have been done.
I love the 6-speed-- it really works brilliantly with these cars. Many people believe that it is a double-overdrive gearbox, but it really adds another gear between 1st and 5th, so you can always find the right gear.
Yes, more work to install, but trust me, its worth it!

Thanks, Michael. I will be in touch when I finally pick one up. I've sure seen some good deals on some S/13 5 speeds though. Does the 6 speed give you a higher top end gear, or is it the same ratio as the 5 speed final gear?

Final drive ratio is the same as the 5-speed DET gearbox.
