Nissan, so still a Datsun sort of

Post by dbrick »

I just got a 2005 Xterra to replace my Dodge Ram, going a little smaller. 4.0 and a six speed manual with the Off road package. Took a month to find one that wasn't black or silver. Really fun, didn't get the Rockford Fosgate stereo, only downside. I'm not used to a "modern" car with a manual trans, feels odd driving it, but it drives great.

Looks great Dave!

I never drove a manual transmission younger than 1978...does a little light come on and tell you when to shift? :D

No, but I think my 79 Sunbird had the shift light. It's the lack of engine noise and a few extra gears throwing me off, I end up running down the road at 60 in 4th, and I keep putting it in 6th to back up.

I didn't see this until now...

Dave, make sure you join thenewx.org forum. Lots of good guys over there.

It has a 5,000lb towing cap.

Driving the 6 speed isn't too bad. 1st is practically useless though. Super low. In 4-low, you can let the clutch out and it will crawl along by itself.

Add another one to the list that you and I have both owned...

I am surprised how hard it was to find one that fit the requirements. We must have discussed 30 of them before this one came up. One of the few without running boards

I wanted one that wasn't black white or silver, so than eliminated 85%. I really wanted the Rockford Fosgate stereo, it sounds nice, but this fit the bill and the price was awesome, $8500.00. Have the nerf bars, 05 Off Roads came without them and I like it without, but my wife is a bit short, just need to install them.
Next is a decent stereo and speakers, the base model unit is awful.

Don't mean to bring this back from the dead, but back in December I traded my Frontier for a 2012 Pro4X:

I have it lifted 2" and it's on 33's like my sig says. I off-road it with a bunch of guys from MA and RI.

Yup, Xterra is a nice truck, but keeping the Dodge, so don't need 2. If anyone is looking, let me know, make you a great deal, rather lose money to a friend than a stranger.
Jordan, Few things I learned..
Get the BullyDog triple gauge, it's awesome. 3-4 mpg increase just installing the basic tune.
Do the clutch mod on the forums, totally different feel than stock.
Changing the spark plugs sucks!

Update, Xterra is still for sale, but traded in the Dodge for a Frontier long bed Crew in "Oh my God that's Red". Frontiers are expensive, way more than a comparable Xterra but I sold the Dodge for what I paid for it 4 years ago, so not too bad.
