Backup light?

Post by dbrick »

The Japanese copy everything, so are repros of the original the same as OEM Japanese? Nice looking part.

Looks good. Is my Datsun supposed to have two reverse lights or one (like it has now). I've seen two on other's cars.

Most 68 and 69's have one. According to Datsun.org they added the second one in 70. I've heard the other mount point was for rhd cars. The repro looks great!

I was going to add a second BU light on Andy, (68),,,however, there aren't any holes.
My 69 had two, including overspray from all three paint jobs.

My 69 has two as well. I thought the 68's had one, but I've been mistaken before...lots.

I'd be interested in one of the repro lights.

It says it can also be used a a fog light.
I have one like that but a lotmore worn. What did it originally come off of?
The site says it is a Wipac brand.

Has anyone tried to retrofit backup lights to a low-windshield?

Ya might check the length of the mounting surface with a wire brush for another set of holes next to the bracket that's on there.

My '68 came with one light but was drilled for two. I pulled a matched set from a '69 parts car, whose socket gaskets were still good (no rusty bulb spring or socket). Replaced the original "Life" Japanese bulbs with some halogens and had a good view.

No stinking backup camera for moi...

I believe there was a third set of holes for a fog taillight (extra brightness), required in some countries. The listing for the reproduction item above even lists a red lens, that's cool.

There wasn't an additional harness wire in the trunk for it, but I thought it would be easy to tap the line for the front fog lights and switch (rotate the main knob) and run a wire back there to also turn on the fog taillight, had I put one on there.

They do?

I mean, of course they do!

(Seriously, mine is at the shop. I pulled down the calendar and looked at the '66 from July - didn't see one. When I saw this post, I pulled up the site the guy I bought mine from has left up...and damned if it isn't there.)

I feel like an idiot now...

I think my 67.5 2000 is drilled for 2 sets. I've never had any, but with the new wiring being set up I probably should locate a light or two, assuming the trans switch works.

Wipac was a British company, they made parts for alot of cars. Probably fits a Mini, or some other 60's Brit car. Even if you were to paint it black, will never rust. they have quantity discounts and a free shirt if you spend more then 25 pounds. they have some cool fog lamps, sideview mirrors etc.
