Definitely not comfortable driving on it. Local o'reilly has the 1/2" longer studs, so will wait and do the wheel bearings and the studs at the same time. Question is, with 5 turns today, will half inch longer be too long?

I half inch should get you 10 more turns and would be safe, as for if it will be too much for your lugs it would depend on the size tuner lugs you are using. I am using 1 1/2 inch tuner lugs with my Rota's and they had no issues. As for your earlier question as to how to remove the studs, use a big hammer and knock them out the back side!

I thought we were going for 9 turns? Are lugs 7/16-20? 20 being 20 threads per inch?
5 turns would be 1/4 inch of gripp. Not enough for me!

i have always been told by my Dad who was a tool and die maker in his day, that you should get half the diameter of the bolt or stud, in threads to hold. Half of 7/16" is 7/32" and 1/4" grip of threads is 1/32 shy if my math is correct. i agree that is not enough for me.

Update, (a couple) longer wheel studs are in & not too long for the wheel & lug nut combo I have.

Part sourced locally was:
Dorman 610-259 - 7/16-20 Serrated Wheel Stud - .475 In. Knurl, 1-3/4 In. Length

I put in 2 tonight before I woke my son up with the noise from my impact gun. The rest are in the freezer, hopefully they will go in a tiny bit easier cold later this weekend.

3 weeks of work! Just to get 3 wheels on. Front driver side is still not done.

First started as.. new wheels, then new wheel studs.. hey while you're doing that, might as well do new bearings, then new brake pads (yeah I should have done rotors.. right?) . Now I have 1/2" longer studs in the front with mucho thread engagement (I only have 10 fingers--lost count) with the lug nuts, not scary 5 turns anymore .
(yeah I know it looks the same as the first pics).



You might notice the fender gap. That's because the other side frame rail is still on a jack stand. I hope to drive the car tomorrow afternoon.

Flying to San Francisco this afternoon, so I decided to take the morning off of work to finish off the roadster. Now see what happens when you go out drinking the night before and then start working on the roadster before breakfast and coffee.



serious rub and scrape on the rear suspension bracket thingy that's suspiciously not in the parts diagram - on both sides. Backed the car out of the garage 6 ft, and it wouldn't move. Steel on Aluminum, and steel was winning. Had to jack the car up in the driveway and put the old Western Bullets back on to drive it back into the garage. She remains a garage queen.

Looks like a spacer is in order for the rear also... but will have to wait until I get back to town.

That sucks. Hopefully it didn't throw off the balance too much, but you'll probably want to have them rebalanced.

Yeah, about that, the sticky weights fell out. Also one wheel was mounted backwards, so I'm going to be visiting the tire shop anyway.

Just to close out this thread...

1/8" spacer up front (3.175mm)
20mm spacer in back

I'm thinking a 0 offset might fit in back and would have saved me some time.

Do you think the 15x7 +25 would fit with a 10mm spacer front and 15mm rear? Not about to pull the trigger, just thinking ahead.

10mm not enough for the rear. 15 will be close. 20mm fit great. I have the 20mm bolt on spacers that I used for about 30 miles(before I got a new rear end that was pre-widened). You can have them for $40 shipped. 10mm in the front would work, mine are just enough to get the wheel over the hub--1/8inch (3mm). 10mm might let the center cap fit over the grease cap though! Either way, longer lug nuts are in order all around.

If I had to do it over again with these wheels +25 in front, +0 in back, nice tucked in look in the back.
