the datsun

Post by Toptech360 »

Hi all. Ive joined the forum because I've got a sweet 1964 spl310 that has been in the family since day one. Its pretty much all stock in unrestored condition. It has has been sitting the better part of 10 years with very little run time in between. It currently has a dead battery and a leaking water pump... I want to "renew" this this cool little roadster into a reliable driver!

I can post up more pics if anyone is interested. Can someone help me with where to get filters? Oil/air/fuel. And maybe engine and transmission oil recommendation? Can basic tuneup parts be had from the Nissan dealership or is it online/specialty shops?
Thanks, looking forward to learning about these cool little roadsters.

Welcome!
What a treasure, a one-owner Roadster!
You should take and post as many pictures as possible if this is an "unmolested" original! The historians here would love that.
Get to know the search function, an the tech wiki, in addition look at the vendor section.
Tech, for parts: http://www.311s.org/pmwiki-311/pmwiki.p ... tion.Parts" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
You have come to the right place, you can learn and ask anything about your car here!

They keep coming out of the wood work! Welcome, beautiful car that is sure to have some great memories, and many yet to come. Post your location and you're likely to make some local friends and supports. Time to get her back out on the road where she belongs!

I special order oil filters for my U20(s) from Advance Auto Parts. I'll get you the part number if needed. Otherwise, I'm sure that one or two of our trusty vendors on here will have a source.

Thanks for the warm welcome! I will definetly post more pics soon.
This car was kept in sunny dry southern california its whole life, and now it lives in Washington State and has likely experienced its first freezing weather last night. :(

I feel bad for the little car!! lol. Im hoping to really dig into it within the next few weeks so I can get a feeling of what needs to be done. In the meantime I will be lurking around and reading the tech section.

Oh Cool, you're in our neck of the woods! Yes, I do believe that yesterday may have been the LAST sunny Roadster day for a while... soon the northwest rain will come. I got the beastie out for a short run yesterday, but it was cold! There are several Roadster owners in Olympia, and we are all within easy striking distance on any good day. Look forward to seeing the car next season, as I hope to make up for being down most of this year's. In the meantime I've got a few leaks to fix... and maybe a new RX7 diff, and maybe new wheels and tires, and and and...

No wrecks! Im not positive what its value would be. I hope to post many more pictures by this weekend and maybe some of you may be able to help me get an idea of its value. Haggerty has it insured for 20k currently.

I would love to see more pics. I have a '64 SPL310, red, just like this, but it needs a LOT of work and would love to see one that is original to compare.

Hi all, sorry for the long stretch between posts. I had been busy building a garage/shed for the datsun to keep warm and dry for these cold Washington winters. Finally now no that I'm done with that I finally get to work on the roadster! The more I poke around the more I realize just how intact this little car is.

I'd like to preserve this car rather than restore it. What are your opinions on a thorough cleaning and buffing? I'd like to keep it looking the way it does (patina, right?) it does need some mechanical work, water pump and it hasn't been started in over 2 years... I'll post more pics as I can. If anyone would like specific pics of something let me know I would be happy to do so. Hope you all enjoy! Thanks.

That is incredible. I might need to hit you up for some close up shots of things when I get to reassembling my 310.

That looks fantastic, very solid and straight. I like your idea of preservation.
Cleaning buffing and waxing are fine in my book, something that would have been done all along with a caring owner!
