That sucks!

Funny thing, I just finished surfing Craigslist before I saw your post;

Mikey: replace your brake hoses first. If you have very little travel that means that your brake fluid isn't moving toward the calipers/pistons. They can be obtained from a guy on Ebay in Argentina very cost effectively.

changed out a suspect lower radiator hose... PIA...
also noticed my solex carbs have two different return springs, which may explain why the car seems to lag on one carb a tad... have an original setup on my spare set so will swap them over this weekend and see how that goes (also slightly rich on quick take up which may have to do with the spring rating ... the wee little spring teds to go rich early and late !)

What? I should have a return spring on each? I better buy a new pair. I am running 1 spring with the screw holding them in sync tight.

Stalled out at a red light, was waiting for it to happen as the car has been sputtering very slightly for about a second once every week or so, and I couldn't reproduce it. Played with a relay and some of the loom, and it turns out I have more poor wiring to replace from the previous owner. Over the winter I'll be tearing all the old wiring out, not including what I've already replaced, and making my own harness.

Picked up my newly upholstered seats and here they are fitted: -
Image
They look, smell and feel BEAUTIFUL :D

Been very busy testing all the electricals and fixing bad connectors.
My son finally found reverse gear tonight and I saw the reverse light come on.
That was the last item to be checked.
Ignition is all sorted.
Headlights were a bit of a fizzer.
One is fine, the other went up in a cloud of smoke
Obviously air has leaked into the sealed beam unit and FOOOOF, filaments are now KAPUT!
I think everything electrical is a go now :)
Until something else plays up

Need to do a wee bit of fiddling with the carbs. sticky or incorrectly adjusted floats for a start.
The front carb. seems to be a bit low on fuel for some reason.
Nissanman, just trying to help.

@greg
Oil filter undid - oil came out - engine seized. Have a nice spotty trail of oil from house out to street and intermittently to local store. FORTUNATELY, my cousin was in town the day before and we did about 300 miles at exuberent speed.
God knows what would have happened at 70+ (especially on a hard corner).
I intend to take the line of least resistance initially (confirmed by K.D.) Drain oil, remove oil pan, journals and bearings and inspect. Hopefully, since I was at low rpm, maybe the crank survived as is (other than perhaps some mild abrading).
Wish me luck and thanks for your commiserations - I will certainly use an oil filter wrench in the future.
Ah well.

Good luck with the repairs, I hope it suffered minimal damage.

Today I removed the float bowl caps to see WTF was going on with my fuel delivery.
Behold and Lo, the front carb had a fur ball stuck against the float valve
Problem solvered.
The rear carb was fine so I reassembled it with some thread sealant on the inlet nipple.
Leak fixed.
Finally found the front sway bar, tucked away in my parts shed, exactly where I left it 8 years ago
Took ages to fit that thang.
Fresh rubbers and zero tolerance with the fasteners = trouble.
Made a new rubber gasket for the glass bowl filter and checked for any leaks using myself as a air pressure source.
Tight as a drum so that's back on the car and in service :)
Did a timing check, now set at 12deg BTDC, adjusted the mixture on the carbs. spark plugs now a lot cleaner :)
By no means the final setting but it is real close I believe
Have an interesting problem with the fuel gauge.
I got it from the US of A years ago since my car had an aftermarket gauge fitted.
Anyhoo, after being restored and lovingly installed, it works BACKWARDS
10L of fuel in the tank and it reads FULL.
Obviously intended for a -ve ground car.
I'll live with it for now but I will modify the tank sender to send a positive voltage to the gauge so it reads correctly.

Also noticed that the tyres that I have fitted are rubbing on the upper wishbone at full lock.
They are 175x75R13s. My tyre fitter talked me into them, I should have insisted on 155s.
If necessary I'll fit some longer bolts to the steering stoppers to prevent that intimate contact.

I really do need my windscreen frame back from the Chroming shop

After a spirited drive yesterday I got under the car to just check over the under carriage and found both of the tranny to tranny mount bolts gone. One just sitting there on frame shelf and other gone. Got 2 new ones from hardware store and bolted in. They are not fun to do, just getting them started is a pain then there is not enough room to swing a wrench. I'm sure some of you know.

Added "new" ZTherapy carbs, an East Coast Roadster EI distributor, new Boesch coil and new hi-performance plugs wires. Running strong now. Next week a new exhaust.
