This would be a sum up of the last few weeks.
We completed our move to a new home. A requirement being a three car garage. The last bit to be moved was the DSU. I spent more sleepless nights over that move than anything else. We loaded it on a borrowed trailer and I drove with one eye on the mirror to its new home. At this end, we rolled it right back off and into its new home. The next few days I met all the new neighbors and answered all the usual questions (yeah, its a Datsun). Once I get the garage (and the house) unpacked, it will be back to the wiring and the brakes.
I could swear the car is smiling.

I spent about 4 hours adapting a steering wheel hub from Lecarra to Formuling bolt pattern. They are both a 9 hole mount, but the bolt circle on the Formuling is about 3/16 smaller diameter. Getting 9 new holes to all line up with just a drill press a pencil and a center punch is an adventure. Had to do ALOT of creative work on the horn button. Should be able to bolt it in tomorrow and get some photos.

Did some more wiring this morning.
This my take on the protection for the cars' wiring loom.
Image
The White wire, which is normally connected to the alternator "A" terminal, is now mounted to one post of a 30A circuit breaker.
The other post is then connected to the "A" terminal.
This effectively limits the current in the Ammeter gauge to 30A, its' maximum reading.
For convenience, I used the alternator Ground terminal screw to mount the circuit breaker can.
It doesn't need to be grounded as such to function.

Here's a wee bit of insurance.
Since the dash panel has been primed and painted both sides, I decided to make up a ground loop for all of the gauges and the Map Light.
Image
The little fork connectors will go under one of the clamping nuts on each instrument.
The end of the loop will common to the ground wire supplied in the OEM loom for the centre console cigar lighter.

Followup..I now have a very nice setup for a 64...NOT a 66. They use a different adapter. I thought I had a rare Lecarra adapter, I now have a very very rare one I can't use. Anyone with a 64 who wants an awesome black steering wheel, let me know.

Yesterday Curtis finished up his part of the rewiring job on my car, and all I need to do is cover the wires, finalize some connections and we should be good. Thanks a whole freakin bunch Curtis! The EI dizzy you will get seems like a heck of a deal for all your work!

While he was doing this, I was assembling the new and improved mighty U20. I had spent a bit of time the day before confirming the larger valves clear the pistons by claying the pistons, installing the head and spinning her around... Contact! Number 4 was hitting the intake valve without the head gasket on, but there was a good possibility that the upper chain had moved due to rotating the engine while we were eyebrowing the block, so I went ahead and pulled the front cover and realigned the chain. With the chain confirmed to be correct and with the head gasket in place, no more contact and the clay remains untouched. So with all good I installed the head and bolted on a few more items. Now I'm waiting for the 10lb aluminum flywheel I purchased from Garm on Thursday to arrive, hopefully on Tuesday. The engine may go in on Wednesday, and maybe, just maybe she'll fire on Thursday! She's gonna be a BEAST! :smt003

Did an oil change-put in 10w30, added oil to the dashpots, tinkered with the carbs again (still not running right but have ZTherapy coming to the rescue), changed out old regular headlights and put in halogens, and tracked down the oil leak at the rear of the engine. Its coming from between the head and the block at the rear corner by the distributor. Guess I'll need to replace the head gasket soon. I'll probably do that when the new carbs come in. Took it for a spin!!

Check that oil leak closely. Could be coming from the seal inside the distributor mount and traveling. Clean the area really really well (brake cleaner cleans everything off!) and run the car, then look again.

Just curious. Which halogen lamps did you buy? I was considering a pair I saw on Amazon.

Repaired the speedo.
It took a jump , buried the needle and popped out the needle counterweight.
Simple fix, pain to get under the dash to remove the speedo.

They become addictive. You blast everything! they like ALOT of air, I would suggest large diameter hose and consider a surge tank. I thought mine was junk until I got 3/8 hose. Even better if you put a 5 gal air tank close by and 1/2" hose up to the cabinet.

I drove it 200 miles in one day ! What a thrill ! I swear, after driving top down on the interstate at 65-70 mph I had more adrenaline in my blood stream than HPDE days in the NSX doing double those speeds !
I filled up before and after the drive. It seems i'm getting about 260-280 miles on a tank (1600, 4 speed). About right?
