Wet sanding and final buffer is next activity! Prep work took a while. Had to weld in new front rocker sections and lower portion of door post on both sides - got the replacements from a old car. Took a while to separate outer rocker from inner rocker panel, then weld in a small rust patch on the left rear quarter, then some body smoothing with filler. I primed her with a two part expoy primer that worked great. Then the top coat (acrylic urethane). I like the catalyzed paints - much easier to work with - require little to no reduction and work over a wide temperature range (good for driveway work!)

I did however paint my 69 project this weekend. Another driveway job (number 3). Color is metallic beige (Datsun code 535) which is the factory color of this car. Sort of a rare color based on what I have seen at shows and pics but I like it. A few bugs, a little dust, the painter left a thumb print lifting the trunk lid...doh! - but all in all looks pretty good... Sue, the signifcant other says, "it's a 40 year old car, it shouldn't look perfect"

Trying to get it together for the Glen this year...going to be a longshot...since I have to install interior, rollbar, top, exterior trim and the rebuilt engine (Solex B cam)

Joe does nice paint work, Like the color alot. Just do drivetrain, necessary electronics and seats, all you need for the Glen.

mine SPL has mostly just been siting in the garage since late june ,but finally today I have it running at least . I had a plumming headace with the house that took me weeks to correct and it has been a sauna here H I around 100 most days ,plus I have a lot to do every day anyway .
Right now it is running on the rear carb only, I tried to adjust the needle but no change still not bad for 9 1/2 yrs settting and I just drained and aired out the gas tank & LOF ,water pump , plug wires
should be on the road soon .

Yesterday was a good day! Curtis came out and spent the whole day working on the wiring, and we now have lights, gauges, ignition (nearly, have to fix some bad crimps I did, wrong tool), etc. For the first time in 29 or more years the car has turn signals! We should be completely done next weekend.

Then I got a call from Steve, cylinder head guy. He's had the head on the flow bench, and is quite happy with the results. I will post a separate thread on the engine when I get it and get more info, but his initial report is that the exhaust port, which is the weakest link in the head, improved to the point that it can now produce approx 30 more HP! This is an ENORMOUS change, especially considering that the head had already had a lot of work done. It is now flowing AT WORST 89% efficiency, and usually is in the upper 90s where as before it was "lazy" and at certain rpms would drop efficiency way down. Not anymore! Steve calmly says "It improved a bunch." Ya, I'll say! He has a lot more data to provide but wanted to get started on the block eyebrows to clear the valves so I can get it back and running. We're not expecting 30 more HP to the wheels, but it should be a substantial improvement over the entire power band, and it should really "wake up" the engine per Steve. Woo hoo, I can hardly wait!!!

Yes, it's great to hook stuff up and have it actually work. I hate those stupid flashers though. Switch needs repair and cost us some time before I checked the thing. Should know better from having taken one apart and cleaning it up.

We did make a couple sparks though when we let the battery charger positive cable we were using to power things slip up to the steering column in the engine bay and ground out. Oops.

Thank you Dale.

Single stage acrylic urathane. Got it from TCP Global. They have great prices and sell "kits" with hardner and reducer. Right now she is color sanded. Had to make a few spot repairs where bugs flew into the wet paint...ready to buff as soon as I have the time.

I wasn't planning on buying wheels for the roadster, but when I saw these old school JDM AME mesh wheels while driving to work yesterday...I just had to stop to take a closer look. I decided to bring the roadster over to the shop for fitment and surprising it cleared the front disc brakes and the rear fenders. I still haven't mounted it yet though. I'll post some photos when it's on the roadster. Specs are 14x6.5 with +23 offset, three piece construction

Very observant! They're actually made by Enkei, but were only sold in Japan. AME (Auto Mobile Engineering) is the high-end brand of Enkei...like what Lexus is to Toyota
