I wanted to replace the master with a double plunger on a 67 1600. I need to get a new one anyway and that little single makes me nervous. I know I need more clearance on the air cleaner and to change the lines, but will a later model master fit in there, are the lines going to be the same size and are there any cheaper swaps for the part?
Thanks
Break master swap

I think you may need to modify the cowl ledge in order for it to fit. If you look at the 67 and later cars, there is a notch which provides for extra room for the dual master.

Here's how Michael modified Wild Bill's '67 roadster (beautiful job, Michael):

The brake master cylinder pocket modification pics are in reverse order starting w/ the last pic on page 1 of the album.
Definitely something to think about during a frame-off...

'67 1600 - frame off started in 2014. Now I know why roadster projects take so long. What a stupid idea.

I don't have first hand experience with it, but I am prett sure that is what others do - modify the air cleaners.
There is also some fun to be had modifying the plunger in addition to the brake lines.
Dean at Fairlady used to have conversions, I think.
The 240Z master is a price friendly alternative, you will have to open up the bolt spacing, firewall hole and switch to metric fittings at the master...But you have to mess with those anyways...
