Excited!
Hey, just thought I would introduce myself. Now, that I am a roadster owner. My name is Jerry, I live on the Wisconsin/Illinois border. I had a Datsun 280z a little ways back and just loved the car. I had to get rid of it for living situation reasons. Well ever since then I have been looking for a summer car always thought the 240z was going to be the one to go with. I came across a 1600 on a craigslist listing maybe 2 years ago. I knew I had to have one! So I have been looking and researching about them. I finally saved up enough money to buy a decent one. My plan was to have one that I could drive and work on at the same time. Well making a long story short I ended up with a 1969 2000 that was shipped last night to Chicago. I drove down there at 9 pm because I couldn't wait to pick it up today lol. Probably one of the best drives coming out to the city back home I have ever had! I will have plenty of questions and I already have been coming up with a list of things that I want to start on fixing. My plan is to just fix simple things and maintain it and save up for a year or so then do a restoration. Pics and more will be coming soon.

Re: Excited!
Woo Hoo, we're excited for you too! There are a number of things to know about U20 engines to help them survive trouble free, so glance through the wiki and search for info on shimming the upper chain tensioner and monitoring or cutting off the "evil L" bracket on the chain guide. 5th gear backing off in the trans is another issue, but it is possible that many of the issues have already been addressed. The more you know about the past of your car the better, but if you need to dig into it sometime (like to do a clutch) it would be good to know that this is a good time to take the trans to a shop and make sure the 5th gear issue has been addressed.
Welcome, and post some pics! Great bunch here, very supportive and friendly.

Re: Excited!
Alright, another Midwest roadster! Since you're in Richmond & I'm in Lake in the Hills, we're not too far away from each other. We should meet up this month at a local cruise night with our roadsters. There's a Monday night cruise in McHenry this month or a Wednesday night show in Mundelien on the 14th. Let me know if you can do either. If not, I know the Wisconsin guys always make it down to Blackhawk in September for the final vintage races, that's always a good Datsun turn out.
Looking forward to seeing your ride.

Re: Excited!
I would be down to meet up sometime! I don't think mine is much of a show car yet. Lots of dings and scratches. I would love to see some other Datsuns though. Thanks!
