Wow, so much fun to read about your adventure! Having a mechanically sound Roadster to travel in is the ultimate. Camping with a Roadster is fun too, my fav pic is the one with the tent.
As an FYI, the back country in Yosemite is fun on a horse packing trip thru one of the licensed wrangler outfits-- I did a 8 day trip once, so beautiful.
Occidental, what a lovely town, and Coleman Valley road , where I lived once, is so fun to drive in a Roadster.
Look forward to your next meanderings. The Roadster is quite the conversation-starter isn't it?

I am writing the live from the Mt. Shasta Show 'n Shine, where there's an abundance of cool cars and cool people. Very happy that I was able to adjust my schedule to get here.

I changed the "Route" part of the blog to show the proposed path for the upcoming state, since Google Maps won't support enough waypoints to stay much further ahead than that. I'll update that as I go along, and as always, I will probably change my mind and go a different direction someplace in the middle. :)

Oregon next, starting tomorrow...

Alternator update: I was looking for an alternator at Shasta, as mine was starting to make some really ugly bearing noises. I was going to get new bearings put in this one at my next larger city stop, but I found a remanufactured unit on Ebay for $50 (!). I figured new bearings and labor probably wouldn't be much cheaper than that, plus the mounting holes in the reman unit were probably round (unlike my alternator), so I went for it. Link here

I had it drop shipped to a friend in Portland, and picked it up when I got there. It's actually a Hitachi alternator (according to the embossed logo in the case), but there's no part numbers or anything on it, other than "Made in Japan". However, it dropped right in, fit perfectly, and seems to be working fine so far, so we'll see how it does.

Very nice pics. That will help me convince my wife a US holiday is a good idea. Anybody want to rent me a roadster?

I would encourage anyone near Scott's route to invite him to spend the night. We did, and it was a pleasure. He has lots of good stories and is a great guest. He is having a hard time sticking to his schedule, as he gets sidetracked often. He is really seeing a lot of the U.S. in the best way possible.

I'm on a brief intermission while I hang out in New Mexico for a few days for a job, but here's the up-to-date statistics when I stopped. Seems like a good time for a recap, as I'll be on "Leg 2" of the journey once I resume (the west-to-east part, with the south-to-north part being the almost-done Leg 1).

Miles covered so far: 7,180
States visited: 5 (counting Nevada)
Gas consumed: 290 gallons
Average MPG: 24.75
Hotels: 7
Airbnb/Couchsurfing Stays: 8
Camping Stays: 6
Friends/Family Couches: 4
Car problems: 2 (if you don't count the pre-emptive alternator replacement)

The Carters were great hosts in Washington, and I really enjoyed my stay there. It's been awesome being able to hook up with various Roadster owners (both on purpose and by accident), and I'm looking forward to meeting more of you guys as I wander around. I should be flying back to Seattle to get back in the car some time next week if this job sticks to its schedule, then heading up to the Great White North for a bit. Thanks for all the support!

Again, let me know when you come through Salt Lake City, Utah. I have a garage, tools, a spare bedroom and shower. You could do a quick oil/filter change, and any other maintenance you may need.

I am definitely taking you up on that offer. I should have a better idea of when I'll get to Salt Lake shortly; I just figured out most of my Seattle/Vancouver/Calgary stuff and am working on Idaho/Montana/Yellowstone.

Let me know if you need a place to sleep in Calgary... We should be around most of the rest of the summer...

We are right in the centre of town and should have a spot in the garage by then... hopefully...
