New Guy in Modesto, Ca
Hi All,
Been a lurker here for awhile but not new to the Datsun world. I've been a Z owner for several years and currently own a nice '71 with about 83k on it (lucky barn find kinda deal). I just picked up a "mostly" rust free 67.5 1600. It's 100% complete. Body is really good, but the car is going to need lots of beautification as its been parked for about 15 years, some under cover, some not. Upon getting it home I've discovered the motor is seized. Now the thought process begins............swap......rebuild....??
Oh, I already know, no pics or it didn't happen. I'll put some up soon.

Before you give up on the engine, pull the plugs and put plenty of Marvel Mystery Oil in the cylinders or even spray with PB Blaster. It may come loose.

Rebuilding the R16 is you most cost effective route.
Swap if you like, I have.......
We (the forum) always suggest you get it running and drive for some time before you tear into it.

Welcome
parts for 1600 are fairly easy to get and prices in most owners budget.
Post what you need and the forum will help anyway we can.

I've been spraying it liberally with Deep Creep made by Seafoam since saturday.....just tried it again with a wrench on the flywheel bolt and still tight as a drum. I'll keep trying

The p.o. had done the head shortly before it was parked. It now has no coolant in it. Are the R blocks prone to cracking in a freeze? I mean a central California freeze

Have you removed the valve cover?

Re: New Guy in Modesto, Ca
Marver mystery oil is your friend, if you can leave the car out in the sun better. The engine will expand a very tinny bit due to the sun heat. Probably enough to help the piston get free. You can even fill up a bucket full of HOT water and pore it into the radiator or on the engine. But don't pore the water when the spark plugs are off. By the way remove the spark plugs to eliminate all the compression. Also use a engine starter charger or something because you will quickly drain the power of a new battery. Plus you don't know if the alternator is charging or not. If not you can still keep on using the wrench but don't add allot of pressure. You don't want to break the crankshaft bolt.
Good luck hope this helps. By the way this method is what i used to unfreeze my engine. No damaged occurred the the rings or cam.

If you do take the cover off try and pore a little bit of oil on the camshaft. That way you can be a little safer.
