Well, ya ever have one of those days when good stuff happens? I had one of those today... Last night I picked up my crank pulley, which my friend Steve (cylinder head/engine/machinist expert) had modified along with the trigger wheel to fit together so I could fit it to the motor, find TDC, and properly align the trigger wheel. Once done, I took it back so he could tack it in place. As usual, we started talking cars and what we're doing for the head this go around, and some good stuff is coming. But then he says "Hey, I've got one of your cams here, and I keep forgetting to give it back to you." Turns out its an uncut, perfect condition B cam! Guess I had brought it to him along with another core, and we had gone with a different Racer Brown grind (what I'm running now... Think we're gonna go more aggressive with the new changes, but that's another story). I had completely forgotten about this cam, won't be using it, so now I have a perfect B cam for someone!

THEN we start talking about wheels, and I tell him how much I have fallen in love with Cosmics but that I can't find any, certainly not 14s or 15s. Steve grins at me, climbs up into the loft, and comes down with a perfect set of 15x6.5, 4 on 4.5 Cosmics! Are you freakin kidding me! Nope. He's had these for 30 years, waiting for the day he gets back to the TR4 (and the Mini, and the Jag). BUT, they recently started reproducing a period correct wheel he would rather have for the TR... We have yet to strike a deal, but I think I've found my wheels! And they are very light, lighter he said the the Porsche alloys he recently had.

So, I left his shop 10 feet off the ground. Not only are we gonna do some nice stuff to the head, improve the ignition, do a different cam, lighten the flywheel more, but I've got a cam I forgot about and can sell, and I found my most desired wheels... It's a good day!!!

you will see, if you get the refurbushed, that they are quite porous and pits show when cleared. I have a set that I had done twice so that they look very nice.

Alp, Please share your technique or what you had done! I do plan to repaint them in the painted areas, and was considering clear coating the whole wheel. I just had some interior items power coated, and their main business is wheels. I would imagine that that is a rather expensive route though. I'm not expecting show car perfection. Thanks!

I got mine done locally at a wheel shop. It was $120 per wheel. The surface skimmed the wheels to get rid of any defects then polished and painted them. Finally cleared them, which I didn't like so the removed it. They turned out beautiful.






this is when the porous areas pick up polishing compound then get cleared over top. Chose not to clear and instead hand polish them every so often.

these are Porsche Cosmics. They do have a different design in the back with holes.

Wow, those are beautiful Alp! The five hole wheels really help the star stand out. I doubt the budget will cover a professional resto (this year anyway), so it's up to me. Assuming I get them, I plan to paint the four "spokes" that have the lug nuts gold and the rest glossy black, while polishing the lip and edges. I hope the gold will provide some separation while not overwhelming the wheel. Thanks for the heads up on the clear and contaminants.
