Hello from Sacramento
Hi everyone. I fell in love with some 311's at the Marin Concourse last month & am now hoping to find a suitable one for myself. Seems like this site is a good wealth of info & a much tighter group of owners than other forums I'm part of. Hope to learn & perhaps one day contribute to 311s.org. Here's a pic of me with a 2000 last month. Not mine, but sure wish it was!

Re: Hello from Sacramento
Yes, welcome! You saw some very very nice examples there. If you want to go bone stock, you will need to take your time and bring some hard cash as the cars seem to be jumping up in price. I think you're still ahead of the curve though, and there have been some very nice examples for sale recently at decent prices. If you want to go mod or swap, there may be more cars available. Watch your local Craigslist, as you are in CA and there are a lot of them there and usually in decent, rust free or low rust shape. Familiarize yourself with the vendors and their websites too, as it will help you budget if needed. We're here to help you get addicted! (to good stuff anyway!)

Thanks for the welcomes. I have an Audi S4 & a 4Runner, both modified for different purposes, track & offroad. The goal with a 311 is to maintain it bone stock, a piece of history that can be enjoyed & shared. I'm very eager to join your ranks & am very jealous in the meantime!

Welcome Neil!
I am glad the Concours display got you hooked on a roadster!
This is the right place to help you find one. I would encourage you to join a local fun run and take ride or even drive one before buying.
good luck!

Neil,
Welcome and good luck with your search. I would hit up Mike Young to see what he has available. He has a roadster ranch in Lake County. He was there at the event. Did you happen to meet him? Great guy. Contact is in the vendors section.

Re: Hello from Sacramento
Thanks again for the warm welcomes. I can tell I'm going to love this group! (BTW, your avatars are killing me!!! In a good way, of course.)
Were you there on display in Marin, Mike/bikermike?
I briefly met Mike, but we were very preoccupied trying to spend time with all the amazing vehicles, as we showed up a tad late to the show. I have been in touch with him & will probably have to go see his collection. I see some of the amazing cars he has on his site, & also a few online elsewhere, & am trying very hard not to jump ahead & buy too quickly without doing lots of research. Self control...self control...LOL....

Re: Hello from Sacramento
Hey Neil,
I had my 1600 at the show. It was the other silver one near the far end of the row next to the little red Toyota.
Have you seen the Marin thread?http://311s.org/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f= ... ilit=marin

Mike,
You mean THIS ONE?
Gorgeous!
BTW, as fate would have it, I had pumped 6.66 gallons of gas right before coming out to Marin that day. Then I fell in love. Destiny?

Re: Hello from Sacramento
Neil,
There were only "low windshield" roadsters in the display. Datsun changed the interior in '68 to what we call "high windshield" cars. In your search I suggest starting by choosing which one you prefer.
This is my favorite resource for identifying the cars:
http://datsun.org/roadster/resources/dash.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Re: Hello from Sacramento
Not only were they all low windshield cars, but they were all of the '67.5 variety. The good people of Marin must think that was the only year they were made. I agree w/ Alvin, compare all the variations before you narrow your search. Shasta would be a good show to check out if you can wait that long.Alvin wrote:There were only "low windshield" roadsters in the display.

Re: Hello from Sacramento
Hey Neil,
A good contact point would also be the monthly Datsun club meeting at the Round Table Pizza on Sunrise just north of 50. Usually the 1st Friday of the month (6:30ish) but met 1 week early this month due to the Canby Meet in Oregon.
PM me with contact info and I'll get you a copy of the monthly newsletter. Though the club started as a 510 club, the roadster owners are increasing in number.
