Tmw, I am off for a 1K road trip (formerly Iron Bottom) heading to the gold country - only concern is that I have used up all my AAA credits - so hopefully Eliza will behave.

I followed George and Joe in their Roadsters around Watkins Glen, does that count? I was in a Nissan and rolled the windows down.

I was totally inspired by bikermike's recap of the Marin-Sonoma Concours events that I had to drive my roadster.
I followed Mike home and did a small loop this evening:

Went to Watkins Glen and cruised the back roads with Joe and was chased by Dave in his Xterra. Sorry you had to breathe the rich mixture from my solexes. Had a great weekend there. See you in September.

I got 3 extra MPG from the free hydrocarbons. Funny, tried to impress the guys with the 275~ HP and bake the tires out of one of the driveways. Damn traction control/VDC was onGeorge H wrote:Went to Watkins Glen and cruised the back roads with Joe and was chased by Dave in his Xterra. And I followed Mike and Eric(silver/black mini) in Eliza - just !! <G> with a good deal of effort on my part.
Mike was gracious enough to ensure that his rear was not pointing in my direction when he gunned his engine.
800+ miles (3-days) on mostly beautiful California roads - twisty and challenging - and the weather cooperated perfectly.

Re: Where did you DRIVE this weekend? (Roadsters only!)
Polly and I put on almost 2000 miles in two and a half days. Picked up Butch's 67.5 Saturday afternoon at the Branson MO airport. Drove the beautiful roads around the Ozarks for almost 350 miles. Can't say enough good things about that part of the country. My kind of driving roads. Early Sunday morning we headed out through Kansas. Crazy weather to say the least. At times so dark and so much rain we could not see the front of the hood let alone the road. I was afraid the hail would break the new OEM windshield or that someone would stop in front of me suddenly. Man the hail was loud, just like glass was breaking at times. Twice we were blown a half lane over. I swear I had no steering for a second. Don't think I was going fast enough to hydroplane. Made it to Denver that night. Relatively uneventful drive to Boise from Denver Monday. Looked everything over when we got home and no damage. Guess the hail was smaller than it looked or else the Datsun sheet metal and glass is super strong. Either way, good to be home.

Wow, that was a great way to bond with your new car! Glad you're home safe and sound with no damage!
Me? I drove the cylinder head of my car to my friends shop for a complete rebuild... That's about all of my car that is going anywhere fast right now... Sigh...

Re: Where did you DRIVE this weekend? (Roadsters only!)
I went on a fun run Mon with a local vintage car group, mostly MGs. The loosely organized event happens every holiday and they invite anyone. I was the only Datsun. All of the cars were very nice and so were the people. There were 2 older ladies in a early MG who looked like they were on their way to have tea somewhere. All were very friendly to me and asked if I enjoyed the run and invited me back. I went on some new roads and that was fun too (Santa Monica Mts) I think it would be a great route for one of our runs.

A pic after I fishtailed thru the Big Turn to show them Datsun Roadsters aren't wimpy. (Joke)
On the way back, the King Gilette Ranch, on Mulholland Hwy, now a state park:
