Long time lurker, but now a member of this forum

Post by orangedawg »

Okay, I admit I am one of those people who just lurk and read but never became a member or posted info (occasionally I would to so on "the list"). So, I thought I ought to register and become a member.

I have a 1970 2000, owned it since 1983 (my first car, bought it in high school). About 104,000 miles on it, I bought it when it had 87,000. I live in Wenatchee, WA. It has been neglected incredibly by me, as it is pretty ugly. It has sat outside under a blue tarp for the last 4-5 years. Rebuilt engine a few years ago with some great help for listers (Greg Burrows being a huge huge help). Upgraded to early Solex's, cam, and competition oil pan. Rebuilt brakes and calipers, but those are probably shot now do to it just sitting outside. I will probably be posting about setting those carbs up right as the car runs not too well on my jetting, which is one reason I never drive it. Plus, it is ugly. Still has original paint, kind of a yellow-white, that is starting to wear through to primer (well, at least the front half, as it looks like the PO had some body repairs to the rear). Plan on painting it one of the original reds (I know there are a ton of red roadsters, but I have never owned a red cad).

I will be needing quite a bit of help as I plan to try to get this car back in decent shape. Will be needing new front fenders and rocker panel repairs due to the rust issues. Plus a new top, suspension parts, and who knows what.

I will admit that I am a horrible owner and have neglected this car greatly. For that, I apologize to this community.

Anyway, thought I would "officially" join the forum.

Welcome (kinda...lol) If looks alone kept them (mine) off the road, many would never get driven. So I say who cares what it looks like, as long as you drive it! Mine, once back on the road (with a fresh engine) by the end of the month (!!!!!!) will still be black with gray front fenders. But it will be on the road.

Good luck and don't give up!!

Welcome to being "official". I've owned my roadster for over 40 years and have learned more since I joined than all the previous years. Mike.

I posted on your comment on a different thread, but welcome back! You answered the questions I had here about the car. Let's make plans to get together this spring or summer and see if we can get her sorted out so you can fall back in love again! In the mean time, stay on the list, it will help feed that passion!

You're only 3hrs from me. When I get the car back and running, that sounds like a good shake down. I can leave at 8am, get there by 1100, spend a few hours and be home by dark! We'll plan it!

You don't need to apologize to the community, you need to apologize to the car. Stroke her gently and tell her you'll treat her real nice from now on.

I will try to get a few photos taken that are recent. I was looking at some older photos and I guess I did the engine rebuild about 10 years ago! Boy, time flies. Anyway, has probably less than 3000 miles on rebuild. Photos look decent 10 years ago when installing engine, but sad and cringe-worthy now (I'm sure your thoughts will be you did all that work to clean engine up, rebuild it, new parts, and then you just let it languish?)

BTW, how do you post pictures? I tried to copy a photo and paste it on this post but it won't work.
