Track Masters autoX test and tune day. May 25 Sears Point

Post by SLOroadster »

We are doing another test and tune day Saturday May 25 in the Sears Point paddock. The cost is $75. Tons of seat time, plus parade laps at the lunch break. Instruction is available if you want it.

Info: http://trackmasters-racing.com/index.cf ... %20%0Aurle" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Come on out and have some fun. We have had two people come out and run in the past. Hopefully you guys will be able to make it out again. Oh yeah, we are looking for some help to run the event, if you are interested, I can make it worth your time :D

rules and requirements - how hard is that to achieve (roll bar excepted)
Basic Safety Requirements

Seat Belts - All drivers and passengers must wear seat belts while on track. Factory seat belts are fine, but we highly recommend 5 point harnesses for Advanced drivers. If you are planning to outfit your car with 5 point harnesses, then we recommend that you also add a roll bar to your car. Harnesses keep you upright in the seat, so you need the additional rigidity of a roll bar to ensure that your roof won't collapse in the event of a rollover.

Roll Bars - If you have a convertible you must have either factory roll protection (hoops, auto-deploying anti-roll posts, etc), or an aftermarket 4+ point roll bar. Convertibles are not allowed in our Advanced run group without an aftermarket roll bar.

Helmets - Current requirement is SA2005.

Fire Extinguisher - We recommend that all cars have an extinguisher, but this is not mandatory.

Clothing - Yes, please wear clothes! Seriously, we prefer to see long pants and cotton long sleeve shirts at all of our events. Short sleeve shirts are ok for hot weather months. Driving shoes and a good pair of driving gloves are also recommended.

I'm in for sure, I'll email him to volunteer now. Probably a good time to put the 1600 rear end in.

That is for the track day, not the autoX. Alex doesn't have a roll bar (I don't think, I can't remember) and just stock seat belts, he has run two or three of the events.

Proof, I shot these at the last event just before Solvang.

No, I don't call the factory roll hoop things in S2000s and Z3s a roll bar, they are lower than the drivers head. Come on out and have fun. If your car is safe to drive on the street, its safe to do the autoX day with. We won't send you packing or say you can't play unless there is something very very wrong.

Again, this is for the track day only, not the autoX. The SA2005 helmet is the big thing here, and honestly, we don't check. If you show up with a DOT M helmet, that works as well (I wear one simply because its open faced). Like I said in the post above, if the car is safe to drive on the street, we will allow it. Its not like we are doing even 60 mph on the autoX course (unless you have a full blown race car in which case the track requirements will be met anyway.) Our course layouts are always done so that if the car is pointed at something solid, its in a very slow section and is likely a sharp turn. The fast sections are only in directions that have LOTS of runoff room so if a mistake is made, nothing will be damaged other than perhaps a cone or two (from being hit and drug along the ground.)

I do have roll bar and harness but they let anybody go at the autocross(it seems). Even the parade laps, which I thought was a blast. Too bad last time a racer Porsche dumped 11qts of oil on the track so it was a no go.
I like these test days the best, nothing to hurt your car, so much seat time, and I learn a lot.

If anyone wishes to help, shoot Trekkor an email (his email is on the trackmasters page at the bottom) and tell him I sent you. As of right now we only have 3 or 4 people helping to run this.

Ok, so I have lap belts only, and no form of roll hoop. I also am one of those swapper cars, so I have that against me.

Reading the rules it seems very clear that the lack of a factory 3 point seat belt would keep me out, as would the lack of a 4 point aftermarket roll bar or a "factory roll hoop thing" which the rules seem to consider roll bars regardless of whether or not they do anything.

I consider my car safe to run on the street. It does not leak, the brakes are exceptional, the tires are good, and I am comfortable with lap belts. But I do not see how it could be run given the rules that they list.

Should I contact Trekkor to get a ruling before I consider driving up?

Not sure what is left to ask about. This is NOT a track event, as Will has made abundantly clear.

Sure, shoot him an email. I'm 99.99999% sure he will say come on up. If you guys do come up, I'll bring the roadster out. I wasn't planning on it since tires are expensive, as are broken axles (even a free axle is still $200 by the time it makes it in the car). I was planning on using the day to work on the suspension on the M3, but if we have 3 roadsters running, a 4th is needed.

I'll be coming out for a while, just have to figure out what to bring. Probably the Z, though the Roadster has never been played with.

So do we have any other roadsters coming out for this other than Alex? Just curious.
