Weld. Joe schmoe that taped numbers on the door and went to the track in 67 did it. You will drive yourself crazy with an open diff and it will not be fun. Any corner lightness will spin the tire. And I was doing that with 65hp at the wheels. Had to straighten out to drop it in carousels, sometimes twice. I run a 4sp so can't offer much on gearing, but a 4.38 sounds good if you don't have real long straights. You can down a gear for the short stuff, but can't add any rpms! I went 4.11 to handle Road America on 14" wheels 195/60s I think.
