It is a long drive. I may have a trailer by then. Not concerned about the car making but I am concerned about being paralyzed from the waist down when I get there. But who knows, I could probably tough it out. I am definitely going to make it to one of the west coast shows to meet everyone who has helped me out and see all the cars, ONCE my car is done.

Very cool, let us know when, so if we are being lazy, we'll make sure to be there instead of on the couch! TR

Thanks Steve for getting those other cities posted for me!! I am working hard with a couple of other serious Roadsterites in coordinating an event like this now that I am no longer taking on the responsibility of Solvang anymore!! A lot of us have been talking about how a show in Vegas, Tahoe or even Denver might bring a slew of Roadster owners to an event that we could actually get 100 Roadsters to attend.

As economies of scale go, I see as a number one contender Las Vegas, just by the sheer availability of rooms, the fact that there is a Motor Speedway there that we might be able to do either AutoCross or Drags at, there are some world class Automotive museums there that we might be able to host a dinner party at or something, but as people who know me know. I am never adverse to suggestions.

And any ideas that would bring more attendees would be great!!

Let me play devils advocate for a minute here.

With 2 roadster shows (in the west) already fighting for attendance, why would adding another increase participation? (Particularly, since you say your intent is not to hurt attendance at the other events.)

I know you stated this would be a "national" show, but what would make people drive to Vegas if they wouldn't drive to Solvang or Shasta?

Vegas is a great place for a lot of things, but the weather doesn't usually make people want to be outside. Isn't being outside the essence of the roadster experience?

Who said those other shows are hurting for attendance?? When we took over the Solvang Roadaster Show in 2002 we increased attendance from 40 cars to 60, then 60 to 70 then 70 to 80, and it seems to be on very stable legs.

As for the Shasta show, I can't give you more then my personal observations. But, I feel its lack of attendance the last 2 years is due to the fact that it hasnt been on the same weekend as the All Datsun Meet, which some owners like more than the Roadster Show.

I also feel that both Shasta and Solvang are rather remote locations that do not offer a lot of outside entertainment to entice families into making a vacation out of the event.

With Las Vegas there are many options we are exploring, realize that there is alot of convention space there and who knows we might be able to have an indoor show & shine and other events.

Nothing is a done deal, and I appreciate your Devil's advocacy, really no event like this would take place any sooner than 2006.

I'm really not trying to be negative about your idea (or the current shows - I said fighting for attendance not hurting), but with all the demands on peoples time, I really wondered what would make this new event unique (track days, etc).

On the venue: Don't get me wrong, I take just about any excuse to go to Vegas! But, I wonder if having access to all the other attractions there doesn't make it a worse place for this type of event?

I personally would have a hard time justifying going to Vegas for the weekend and spending all my time hanging out with the cars. (I admittedly am not as into the mechanical aspects of our toys as many others!) Plus, I don't think I should be allowed on the road (especially in a 37 year old car) after being up all night in the casinos and clubs.
