picking up a 66 roadster next week
Hi all,
Long time datsun owner(260Z, 210, 720, 521), but I'm picking up a 1966 1600 next week in trade for my modded Suzuki Samurai.
Always wanted a roadster, and it seems 66 is fairly rare?
Any advice/suggestions?
It looks fairly complete, just missing the front bumper and door cards.
Thanks,
Dan

Congrats and welcome...the early dash is my favorite. Let us know how it runs when you pick it up!

Welcome to the craziness, resistance is futile, and good score getting one so complete.
Front bumpers are really only ceremonial anyway.
Typical list of things to give the once over (are these listed sowmewhere on the WIKI?)
- ground everything
- soak the fusebox in vinegar (you are probably already familiar from Z and 521 work)
- check brake lines for plastic and remove it
- make back-up hood/trunk releases
- make sure pos cable to starter isn't sitting directly on bell-housing
- start looking into elec ignition swap
- make plans for adding flex pipe to the exhaust (if it isn't there already)
- get it running and drive before making any large decisions on tear down (this old hardware will surprise you in how lively it can be made once sorted correctly)
- go out and spank a few MGB's
- follow every completed project with "a spirited drive"

Re: pirking up a 66 roadster next week
After reviewing the photos, the dash does not look like an early dash, so the seller is probably wrong on the year of the car...
Here are the craigslist pictures.

Re: picking up a 66 roadster next week
Tall windshield, dash, and lack of side marker lights. It looks like a 68 to me. Still, a good car.
