So I am considering buying the BRE car cover that says it is all weather.
Anyone have any experience with this car cover? Would it really protect the car from rain for a night or two if away on a trip? Otherwise my car will be in the garage. It's just an emergency item but I'd like to gather some opinions.

I know it works for an hour and a half. Stopped for dinner, started to rain, tossed it on, had dinner, removed it, shook it off, stuffed it in the trunk and took off.
Best cover I have ever bought. Fits perfectly.

Love the roll bar. Is that a custom piece or something you modified?

I had a waterproof breathable semi custom cover I got on Ebay, I used to cover the car top down and leave it for days in the rain, not a drop got through. Lasted 4 years and was about $60.00 I ripped it and need a new one, now can't find the seller.
Some of the retailers on Ebay and elsewhere sell "4 layer 100% waterproof covers", but when asked directly if the car will be totally dry, they recommend a 5 or 7 layer, so 100% waterproof is open to interpretation. The price of the BRE is the same as a custom Covercraft NOAH cover, which may be what it is, so if others say it worked, I'd go with it. Also supports a Datsun vendor.

My roll bar is from an early model Boxster, a bit modified to fit. Best part is that I have the wind screens for it as well.

Thanks for the info on car covers. I think I am officially opting OUT for a soft top for a while and simply getting the car cover. Love that the car cover folds up into the trunk so I would always have it with me. Plus I foresee just using the tonneau cover most of the time to keep the seats from getting too hot.

IMHO car covers are for storage or overnight stays at hotels/motels - dust/rain protectors - period. Car covers have a tendency to depart from the car at speeds over 10 MPH, and impede vision somewhat. While I am a TOTAL top-down motorist - there is little to enjoy in driving in rain that confronts the 'drive faster and let it all flow over the car' philosophy, when the speed limit is under 55 - you just get WET.
For me, a Californian (where it never rains - but it pours (Beach Boys - I think) I just want to drive and I have no pleasure sitting under an underpass waiting for the rain to stop.

For ME, a soft top, like a jack, is a necessary evil - don't want it, don't need it, UNTIL I do, and then I will drive through to some drier area.

This is my dash getting upholstery put on it....two tone, the center area there with the gauges hasn't been padded or wrapped yet, it too will be light grey.

should be out of upholstery shop Wednesday morning, into the paint booth later Wednesday....and then assembly....could be road testing this weekend (might be a push).

I think I can see a bit of light at the end of the tunnel, finally.....or is that just a giant BILL....

I am customizing the original seats that came with the car. We extended the tops of the lowbacks to mirror the shape of the rollbar. Then we are doing a two tone on them to match the dash. Light grey inside, black outside edge. And seat heaters.

The door panels will be two toned as well and custom. Nothing in the interior will be original. Putting a rear view mirror from a 350z. Retro exterior, modern interior.

well, I guess I am behind the curve then...lol...I kept my U20 (but rebuilt it), kept my original brakes but put in comp pads....I am doing a bit of a stereo system, my rollbar will have screens to cut down the wind, power windows, heated seats, and a little hidden hitch so later I can put something like AutoLinx on the back of my car to carry golf clubs. My stereo will have internet access but I certainly won't be able to turn my headlights (though I did upgrade them to H4s) on from it. I had too much fun doing the customize interior....but hey that got me cup holders (okay, cracking myself up now).

Things have gone backwards here. The company I hired to do my interior is struggling to get it done. I had to ask someone else to step in and assist them. Today they are discussing how far back they are going to go and start over. I expected this car at the beginning of April, then we moved the date to yesterday....today, I'm not even sure if I will get it back to at least trailer it to Solvang. Sixteen months of waiting, pushing, asking, hoping, to get it done and the last leg just fell apart. I'm very sad, heartbroken and mad. It is so frustrating to have this out of my control. So those of you that can do the work yourself, be glad, because I am literally powerless. I have enough money into the company that it's hard to pull out, plus couldn't find someone that could step in and meet dates anyway. I'm simply at their mercy. It sucks.

As hard as it is, when something is outside of your control all energy put forth in frustration and anger does nothing but keep you from enjoying what is available to enjoy, with no benefit to you or yours. I know my friend, this is MUCH easier said than done, but it's the truth nonetheless.

In the meantime, try to put the energy into other things/areas of the car or some other of life's issues that need attention. Emotional energy is like electricity: You can either turn lights on with it, or you can stick a fork in the outlet and burn the shit out of yourself... same electricity, it is what you are doing with it that makes the difference.

As you can tell I'm at work... ER social worker... I use this stuff all the time... good luck... and the car looks beautiful.

Today I start to truly mourn the passing of this year's Roadster event in Solvang. Esther will not make the show. It's just such a huge 16 month let down. It just did not get done. Part of the interior is done, part needs fixing, and it's just ugly (what is not done versus what is left). Sadly, a little bit of the zest for the project died when they missed the deadline. Now it's all fight to get them to work on it.

Tonight when I asked when it realistically could be done I was told a month. Well a month seems to mean forever because I would not place a money bet on it. If it goes like it has been going, then they will coast thinking they have lots of time then attempt a rush at the last second only to miss yet another deadline.

I have options and I am exploring them. There is a fight coming sadly. We all started on the same page then somewhere, when my expensive job became a side job that wasn't given the time respect it needed, it became a mess.

So tonight and probably for several days I will mourn the passing of taking my car to the show this year, driving her during the cool months before 100 plus degrees are the norm, forcing me into a car with air conditioning. Now I need to settle my heart and my head to see if I can even attend Solvang. It just feels painful.
