I signed up for Corinthian VARA
I signed up for Corinthian Vintage Auto Racing Association - a group that has a fairly good following in TX.

The first opportunity I can take the class for licensing is in September 2013. I hope to have my 67 SRL ready by then.

excellent! how will the roadster be prepped to abide by their "raced as in 1972" rules? roll bar situation?

Sorry, I find modern engine swaps revolting. Keep your G, R, or U series in your Roadster!

Alvin: I think from reading their rules, I can even run with a stock OEM roll bar! Not that I would do that.
I think to comply I just need a tow hook/eye, a cut-off switch, a roll-bar, and 4 pt harness.
No questions yet but I'm sure I'll have many.

For the battery cutoff switch, find a second cowl grill. Run the wires for the cut off switch up the cowl drain hose and install the switch in the second cowl grill. No holes cut in original bodywork, wires are protected by the drain hose, and you can go back to stock in a matter of moments by undoing the wires and replacing the cowl grill.jamesw wrote:Alvin: I think from reading their rules, I can even run with a stock OEM roll bar! You will likely need a 5pt harness, and the roll bar will have to be taller than you are sitting in the car so you might not be able to use the stock seats.

If your car does not currently have a log book you might want to think about contacting their tech person way-way ahead of time to get a feel for what they think is important. They probably require an annual inspection for both the car and safety gear, if you can get the log book started before your first event you are way ahead of the game. There is nothing worse then showing up at an event and not passing tech....

Yes, this is a good idea. When I ran at Laguna Seca with VSCCA, the tech inspectors blew me off because the car was driven to the race and currently packed with eveything I needed for the weekend. They thought I was joking. After emptying the car, I had to hunt them down and it passed tech no problem and they issued a temp logbook. They called me into impound after my first session so they could check the thickness of the roll bar. After the head tech guy looked it over he was willing to issue a full log book later in the day, but I forgot to go hunt him down.
