i was wondering if u used a alternator from a 1980 ford courier would u still have to use the voltage regulator on it an also would your amp gauge still work with it

Aaron,

You need to use the regulator that came with the alternator. The output stud off the back of the alternator gets attached to the 12ga white wire that is on the car, the amp gauge will work at that point. You will need to find out which wires going to your regulator are ignition sourced, ground and battery source. Use a Ford wiring manual for that information. The GM single wire units seem to be a more popular swap, the original units are better, but if you have a pile of Ford parts...what the hell.
