It's a good looking car and the track day looks fun but I wouldn't run your shoulder harness that low, you don't want to compress your spine if you ever get rear ended. The shoulder straps should mount as close to shoulder height as possible and be as short as possible. The harness stretches so the shorter it is the less it will stretch in an accident, if the belt is that long you may still get enough stretch to hit the steering wheel.

This is true. For Sora, some old harnesses were used just so we could get it on the track as 4-points are required. On the street, no belts at all or just lap belt are used

thx Mike, do you(or anyone) know how to properly display these plates, when I got them there were "1967" stickers, one already in place where the Month should be, and one sticker unopened:

Well, there's correct, there's what most people do, and then there's dumb like me..

Correct, would be to have the year of manufacture sticker in the year well, covering the 63, then use the twin aluminum tabs they send you to display the month above the plate above the month well, and year above the plate above the year well, similar to this… (I have the month on the plate, so I can't do it completely right..) Personally I find this over the top and not to my taste.. But it is legal and correct..


What most people seem to do is use it as a standard plate, as you do not have to show the DMV the YOM sticker again.. That plate now belongs to that car.. So they put the month sticker in the month well, and the current year sticker in the year well.. That is what I do on both my Bus and my Comet.. Looks like the bottom plate in your photo..

Then there is dumb, but I like it..

And I have been pulled over for it, and I show them the current sticker and my registration and my insurance, and they run me for warrants, then we talk about the car, then they say have a great day…

I was told if I did not mind being harassed, they did not mind checking out the car.. works for me...

My '68 2000 with original fenders has a similar difference in fender-tire gap from side to side, except mine is opposite, with the passenger side riding lower than the driver side. Interestingly, the right front wheel also seems to sit at a further offset out than the left.

I rebuilt the front suspension last summer, changing the springs, ball joints, etc, and nothing was amiss. The rebuild didn't change anything with respect to the fender clearance from one side to the other or the apparent offset difference.

I mentioned it to the very experienced front end guy who aligned my car here in Santa Cruz after the rebuild. He suggested that things were different back in '68, no laser cutting, etc. Some guy probably just made things a little different from one side to the other and out the door it went. Sounded good to me and the car felt a hell of a lot better with a tight front end!

I noticed from the track day pictures the helmet/head of the drive of 248 sticks up quite a bit above the roll bar. Was that a problem w/ regards to getting on the track?

I see that the 4-point was fastened to the parcel shelf just behind the roll bar mount. Is there a doubler plate in the underside, or do the eye-bolts go through the plate for the roll bar? That looks simple and easy (if not the ideal place wrt spinal compression)

No, not for this track day. Only requirement was 4-point roll bar and 4-point harnesses. Some groups here use the "broomstick rule" for modern, open-top cars. They lay a stick across the windsheild and roll bar, if the helmet is above the stick you can't run. Cars like current Miatas, etc won't pass unless factory roll-over protection is there ie flip-up stuff.

I will check for plates underside. On the spinal compression/safety front unless you are running a full cage these "street bars" are just for looks and mounting harness in a better place. The belts we used were soley for getting on the track, not with safety in mind.

VARA is different from average HPDE track days. They will have their own set of rules to abide by so I would defer to them.

On our fun run today I used this nifty little cargo net on Sora Blue's passenger side. I hear only a few 67.5 SRLs came from the factory with these installed:

It reminded me of the net in my Z33, really came in handy today!

I am really impressed with the Dunlop Star Spec Z1 tires, highly recommend them if you are looking for a sticky street tire.
