Sacramento Roadster Show-Help!

Post by Alvin »

Hey everyone,
A friend of mine asked me about a potential Datsun Roadster only show in the Sac area, and I am forwarding this to you in hopes for a better answer and possible local contacts:

Got a question for you. As the subject line reads, its in regards to
Datsun Roadsters in the Sacramento area.

Here's the situation.
At the shopping center up in Roseville. The Fountains (is sort of the
up-scale shopping district), right across the street from The
Galleria.
During the summer, they host "Car Shows". Similar in fashion to the
Santana Row "shows", but this one is organized by The Fountains
itself.
For the past 4-years or so, I put together a "show" consisting of
Datsun/Nissan Z's (and GT-Rs) and Infiniti G's and Acura NSX's. It's
been fun, but has gotten too large for me to do alone. So this year,
I'm bowing out.

I've been asked for replacement ideas. I got to think .. maybe there
are enough Datsun Roadsters in the area (need at least 20-30 cars)
that are of "show quality".
Meaning .. not project cars, but nicely done (like yours), race prep'd
cars, etc ... The mall requirements are for "single type or marquee"
shows. So a mix of all Datsuns, will not be allowed. Hence my idea
for a Datsun Roadster show ..

More on the Show .. it's called 1st Fridays. Meaning the shows are
the 1st Fridays of each month. Typically May through October.
Rain or shine. Approx 20-30 parking spaces (within the main mall
drive) is reserved for the car show. There are no prizes or awards.
Just basically a Show-N-Shine. The cars are staged along restaurant
row .. so there is plenty of foot traffic.

My question? Is there a Sacramento Datsun Roadster group? Do you
have any contact information?

Note .. I only say Sacramento because of the logistics of doing the
show. Cars have to be staged NLT 530PM and cannot leave the show area
until 1000PM. This could be anyone from out of town into a
challenging situation.

Why you all gotta be hating on project cars? Seems a bit snooty. If the car can show up by driving there it should be allowed. Seeing how there are no awards or prizes, it just seems like a snoot fest to the exlusion of other people's rides.

Of course I currently don't have a running car, but it is close enough for me to attend......But, if my car was running....I wouldn't show up just on principle.
Will trade guitars for roadsters, food, shelter, clothes, etc, etc.

Roman, If you want to make an impression. I'd tow a junker there at 5:15 and drop it off with no wheels. Show those snobs.

Hey, I can see showing our cars in a favorable light, and I'm all for car shows, but this exclusive bullshit is just that.

Ps. I am not jumping on Alvin, as he is just the messenger of someone's communications. I just don't like the message.

Jon,
Can I put you in touch with the organizer then as a Sacramento-area rep? If not can you recommend someone?

ps…regarding "show quality" I wouldn't take that too seriously. I think what's more important is that there are enough local (30+) roadsters to fill the venue.

The Fountains is a pretty new place and most of the Rosevillers going there on a friday night wouldn't be car people. So I can see why they want it to be "show" cars. It says the mall requires a single type, so they probably also want the cars to look nice. I doubt the organizer is the one excluding us :)

Anyways, if it happens, I'd certainly cruise down and park across the street with my "project"...

Alvin, I can't really be a contact up here. I only know of a few roadsters most of which are in pieces. I wouldn't be of any help. There's a pretty big group of 510s around here but that's it. Sorry

Before my clutch went out, I’ve taken my Roadster, primer gray front fenders and all, to several local cruise in car shows. I don’t care what it looks like (for the most part), I am (was) just happy to be able to drive it. Hopefully I’ll be back on the road with it, still sporting the gray fenders, very soon.

AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAHHA…I Love It!!

I say take ‘em no matter the condition and part across the street if not at the show! This is what I would do if I was still in Yuba City.
My junk pile:
71 Jeep Gladiator. Restored w/#s matching engine. My WeeBeasty
70 1600 legit 2nd owner. Stroked and bored
Several salvaged w access to a barn full of parts, part cars & whole cars
......What's in the barn is for sale. What do you need?

I WAS just kidding about the junker, of course. IMHO, seeing the cars at Solvang, there are maybe 80%+ that I would be happy to own and display at a show like this, some I'd call Show Quality, but the rest of that 80% are very far from projects. The rest were no slouch, I'd drive them.

Me too. So yeah, I think we can get 30 project cars to park across the street.
