OK. AR. MO. KS. meet and greet.

Post by theunz »

It seems there might be some intrest in a get together in this neck of the woods. As I said in another post I would be willing to host a BBQ at my home in Catoosa OK. Catoosa is just east of Tulsa. This would be a roadster optional get together. I think I'm still a year away from finishing mine. It would be nice to get to know the few people in this part of the country that love the roadster, and maybe plan for future fun runs. Sharing of knowledge and ideas would helpful towards keeping our projects going. If anyone is interested you can contact me at 918-266-2401 in the late evenings ( leave call back number as I usually don't answer unknown numbers. I would like to see something in April. Thanks, Mike

Hey Mike
Congrats for getting the ball rolling on a meet. My advice is try to gather some input and then just set the date. If you don't get some committed participants then you can just cancel. The weather is important too I know, but April is nice when I was in that area. Maybe some owners want to stay over so info on motels or state parks would be helpful.
Lots of nice country roads to drive too!

Good ideas Linda. The members that I'm aware of in this area all live within 2 hours of me. However any and all would be welcome and if someone wanted to stay the night Catoosa is home of the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino which has over 2600 games, so if you like giving the Cherokees your money it's a great place to stay. There also several other new hotels in town. I would be glad to provide info to anyone who wants it. You guys in California are so lucky to have such a large network of roadster enthusists to help one another. In the last 20 or so years I have seen only one roadster and I have never seen a flat dash one. I hope the members in this area can make the time to get together. Thanks, Mike

Sounds good Bob. My schedule is real flexable so let me know what works best. Hope to get drewfus and his dad too. Mike

That is about a 10 hr drive from Houston. A bit much for me in the roadster. Sure wish I could make it though!

I mapped it from my apartment in Dallas (on the hope mine is ever running) and it's about 4:45. I can be in downtown Houston in 3:30.

8 hours is still a lot, but it's not 10.

Bob: have you ever shown up in your roadster? NO! :-)

What I need is a pickup big enough to fit the roadster in the truck bed...

Cheers

You don't have to drive one up.

I do plan on driving the roadster down to Houston someday!

Houston to Tulsa is a piece of cake James. I did Florida to Tulsa straight through in the roadster once. Ok it was 40 years ago and was northern Florida, but you'r young aren't you James!

I did San Fran to San Diego, and then San Diego to NC! 8 hours is a piece of cake! :-)
(PS, don't think I'll do that again, it was 25 years ago, and my back would probably never make it...)

I've done San Diego to Berkeley in a '66 with a 4 speed. TWICE.

But that was one of those trips I HAD to do. I overheated on the Grapevine but luckily when I pulled over there was a little clear-running stream right by the side of the road. An angel was looking after my roadster and me that day...

Sounds like fun. I spent most of the day driving my roadster today, loved every second. not sure about taking it cross country though thats a tough drive no matter what your in. My schedule is pretty open, so I'm sure we can probably make it happen.

James, the last roadster that I purchased was driven from Salt Lake City, Utah back home to Harrison, AR and if this 57 year old fart with steel plates and screws in his back can do it, you can to. :P

the only thing i have in April is a sales meeting in Helena, AR and i plan on driving one of the roadsters down for that, weather permitting.

nice of you Mike to offer your home for a meet and greet. i would also point out that Branson Z fest is coming up, and they do want and welcome all Datsun and Nissan owners and their rides to the meet. they have a web site up with dates, motel info and such. and Branson has lots to do to keep the wife and kids from getting bored if they are like mine and don't get into cars so much. so with that in mind, ya'll might want to wait and meet over here, and then come back over to your place in the fall. :D but i am in with what ever everyone else wants to do.
