Turbo DIESEL Datsun 510

Post by FergO2k »

And now for something completely different.
ran across this while "researching" something else. I think it was a Craigslist ad for this car being for sale in the Bay Area, but not sure.

http://the510realm.com/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=25128" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

the youtube footage contained within is pretty surprising speed and response for a diesel, seems like the gearing is well matched.

I freeze-framed on the "parallel to fwy" shots and the signs say "80-Fairfield", so it is somewhere in NorCal.
(where would that be, Vallejo area? or coming out of Davis?)

Certainly not everyone's cup of tea, but the mpg, low miantenance, and great torque of a diesel have always intrigued me.

There was an old pickup with a modern turbo diesel at Solvang last year. Nicely done, looked factory. I would buy that in a second for a year round car if not for the salt around here.

I saw a Z with a biodiesel at Road Atlanta once. Smelled like McDonalds behind it. It went well, and he claimed in the neighborhood of 40-50mpg depending on how hard he drove it. I like it! I wonder if there is a diesel 2x2Z floating around out there for my wife...

There is one up here without a transmission :twisted:
Be nice if you could swap it into an early Pathfinder.

there is a transmission by you, bit pricey but fits a roadster http://www.ebay.com/itm/Datsun-Nissan-5 ... 1066694335

That box won't fit the LD28. It needs to be a maxima box.

But the Roadster wasn't made in a 2+2 - the Z was. A diesel Roadster would be cool, but I have other rats to kill before I get to that...

I was always quite impressed with the turbo d in the jetta I used to drive. It had no trouble getting out of it's own way, and consistently returned 45-50mpg combined driving. My friend and engine master Steve is currently rebuilding and improving the turbo d he's run in his VW shop truck, which also gets great milage. Fuel can be spendy though.
