Ebay buyer Nightmare: azloanguy84
Just had a nightmare with an ebay buyer by the name of azloanguy84
I've had some extra interior handles, and posted them on ebay. I try to accurately describe the parts, and I always post pictures that one can "zoom" in on the pieces to get a detailed look.
I noted that they were scuffed and had some minor pitting, but overall were pretty good, probably an 8.5 out of 10 IMHO.
Unfortunately, when I took the picture, I missed the fact that there was a crack in one of the handles. The auction ended, and when I went to package them to ship, I noticed the crack.
BEFORE shipping, I immediately contacted the buyer, explained the situation, and told him I'd be happy to cancel the transaction if he wanted. Also, I mentioned if he looked at the pics carefully, he'd see the crack in the pic, if he wanted to examine it before deciding.
he wrote back, said "no problem, ship them".
So I did. Then he gives me "neutral" feedback, and accuses me of "misrepresenting" the parts for sale, sending him broken items, etc. Obviously he never bothered to look at the pics at all before bidding.
I even offered to refund his money and take the handles back. He ignored that.
All over a set of handles that sold for... $9.
This is exactly why parts are becoming harder to find. It's not worth the aggravation. I wasn't looking to make a bunch of money, I just didn't want to toss some useable parts out that someone could use.
This isn't the first time someone has flipped out either. A year ago, I sold an item and the buyer demanded a refund because the shipping method I used was different than what had been posted on the ad. Mind you, the time it took to get to him was EXACTLY the same. The difference? About $4.
Unbelievable.

My wife does a lot of her business on line and has backed away from e-bay when she can avoid it. We had a buyer of a couple thousand dollar item that wanted it broken into different shipments and sent to different people in Russia to avoid their customs charges. I really don't want to be on those people's list. When the buyer found out what the cost to do all that would be she backed out, with our happy permission.

It would be nice if ebay had a "blocked" list so buyers who are problematic could just automatically not be allowed to bid.

They do, at least on the individual level.311fan wrote:It would be nice if ebay had a "blocked" list so buyers who are problematic could just automatically not be allowed to bid.
I've blocked a person who has no fewer than three ebay user ID's and had used them to circumvent ebay's rules on bidding then left me negative feed back. I was able to prove to the evilbay drones that this person has multiple user names and got the negative feedback removed.
Some of you on this forum know to whom I refer but I won't air dirty laundry here.

Re: Ebay buyer Nightmare: azloanguy84
Maybe we should give the people on this site the first crack at buying spare parts as I'm sure any transactions would go a lot smoother then E-bay.
I know of some parts I will have extra as my car goes back together, like an extra solex intake etc. may free up some cash for other parts....

....
This is the general practice for the majority of forum members. I have given or swapped most of my surplus parts with roadster locals, almost all of whom participate on this forum. Sort of like a local support group in a larger network. It works.

Its new news to me that the solex stuff is that rare, Im also holding onto a early air cleaner
Someone wanted to trade me something for it many years ago, after drifting these threads Im starting to understand why he was after it. Sly bugger.

I don't know why. I have one up for sale in the classified threads, and no one has expressed interested in the manifold.Gregs672000 wrote:I think buckets of drool just short circuited several keyboards across the country...twistin wrote:Maybe we should give the people on this site the first crack at buying spare parts..., like an extra solex intake....

I think it's because using one is a major money commitment... appropriate sidedraft purchase, possibly isolators, cam, followers, jetting, filtering, stacks, O2 sensor after you give up getting them jetted right or become obsessive...

All SR311's in Oz came with the twin Solex carbs.
That doesn't mean we are swimming in parts!

Re: Ebay buyer Nightmare: azloanguy84
In the US, the Solex package was available as a production line package only for the 67 model year. In 68, emissions came in and that killed that option. It was available as an over the counter piece though. No real records exist that I am aware of, but speculation is that only 2-300 or so of the 67s came with solex from new. Most have had them added.

Re: Ebay buyer Nightmare: azloanguy84
I have never seen a US model 67 with a 150 hp from factory. Some of the Canadian cars came with the solex package but a lot only came with the 135 hp SU set up. I know that the rarest car now is the SU 67 2000 because most have been upgraded with solex and new ID tag. All 68 2000 in Canada were 150 hp solex cars (like Grant's). In 1969 all Canadian cars were 135 hp SU. We never received any 1970 cars. All cars in Canada were non smog. We also received many 65 1500 and 65 1600 where as in the US, the 1600 was officially launched in 1966.

Re: Ebay buyer Nightmare: azloanguy84
The US cars never received the 150hp tag, so PROVING it was factory solex is virtually impossible. I have talked to a few owners (at least one took delivery when it was shipped in on the truck) and they were solex equipped even though the tag showed 135hp. I thought there was one province in Canada (maybe even one locality) that had smog rules. Rallye used to say something about that in their catalogs.
