New project.. 63 1500
Ok I think I have some sort of roadster disease. I bearly have been in the roadster community for a year and I am already at my 3rd roadster. This one is for my dad. Anything I should look out for with these things? I have already been told that parts are these are very hard to find, luckily this one is fairly complete. Missing few things, 3rd seat, grill, hood emblem. etc. Although engine bay is complete.

And drum brakes all around and 13" rims!
I really liked my '64 1500, and was able to keep up with the BADROC guys on caravans to Solvang. The trick is to never use the brakes and maintain momentum!
I sold my car to Andrew down in SoCal to drive while he restored his '67.5 2000. I was shocked to watch a show on Fine Living about the history of the Z, and there was my car! (actually Andrew's at the time). But it was really cool to see it on TV!
The third seat will be hard to find, but the emblems and such show up on ebay from time to time.

Its a 64. My bad. Yes it is the one from riverside. That S*$@ was a pain to get out. It was basically underground and the rear wheels were locked up. Took us about 2 hours to load it into the trailer. It still sits on the trailer right now. Its a ugly beast but hopefully we can turn it into a beater.

Rescuing a 1500 is fun...but It takes a lot of work.
As alexi mentioned, the car was originally a positive ground car. It also is supposed to use 13 inch wheels. The grills are expensive , and the a set of clean full wheel hup caps are as rare as a solex setup.
Hopefully, the rust on the car wasn't too bad...From the pictures I saw of it looked so embedded in the mud, that I was concerned the lower fendes/rockers may have been rusted out. Ross at Sports Imports has patch panels for the 1500.
The steering wheel is the same as the 65-66, but uses a different hup set-up. The soft top mechnaism is completely different...It is supposed to have a wooden front bow. The front seats (as well as the third seat) are made from fiberglass shells.
I totally dig the 1500's..It may be worth going a bit custom with your Dad's car to help keep the cost down..

Its going to be a frankenstein. I dont know yet if he still wants it. It was a whole different story in the pics than in real life. I however have fallen for it. I just love these things! So interesting! The motor is locked from what I could tell. I have 2 R blocks and a few other stuff, including a 66 parts car. I should be able to make something out of it!

"Anything I should look out for with these things?"
Yes, they multiply
Not just 1500's but roadsters in general. Sounds like you've caught the sickness. Might as well hang on and enjoy the ride, 'cause resistance is futile.
I have to admit I sometimes think about moving to the suburbs just so I have more space, so I can buy another! God forbid, I even had the passing thought of clearing out the wood shop, I could probably 3 roadster in there!
Congrats on the new car, enjoy!

Wacky rear fender flares! The engine bay looks complete.
Hats off to you for saving it from that field!
