Hard Top Weatherstrip - Update w/ Part Numbers

Post by jamesw »

Hope this helps everyone.

I just finished off my hard top w/ weatherstrip from Mcmaster Carr

I used part numbers:

12335A74 $2.78 per foot
12335A71 $3.63 per foot

For the window seals and the top to car seal. Need 8' of each of those. I got 10 just to be safe.

And for the front I used:

93085K68 $.96 per foot

Also got 10 feet

Photos.

I don't have a photo of the front seal as the top is on the car right now:

Here are some overall photos of the top. You can see that the weatherstrip between the top and the car is nice and thick and beefy.

Woody: I don't know - if you go to McMaster Carr and enter the part numbers you'll see what they look like.

This is copied from McMaster-Carr. They no longer carry 12335A74. Do you think there recommendation will work?

12335A74
Water- & Weather-Rst Rubber Push-on Seal Bulb on Side, 1/16"-1/8" Edge, 61/64" Bulb Width
This item is no longer available. We suggest:

12335A73

Differences:

12335A73
Minimum Edge: 5/64"
Bulb Width: 11/16"

12335A74
Minimum Edge: 1/16"
Bulb Width: 61/64"

So, same edge but 3/4 bulb instead of close to 1.0 bulb. Should work fine. Is the back deck seal a u-channel or bulb seal?

Reason I ask is there is a good bit of movement, so this is how folks lose paint over time.
Phil in SD has his top pull down to stops, held slightly above the deck, so that the bulb rolls during movement, rather than sliding. Just a thought.

I'm not sure what the difference is between a bulb and a U is but here is a picture. If you click on the photo its clears up.

The U is the portion to the right, that snaps/clamps over the top. The bulb is the circular portion that compresses when you shut the door/window (in this case)
So there are also P-seals, in which the bulb has a straight section coming off it. (Some say D-seals, as long as one is thinking lower case)
The bulb (tube) is used for compression at the door, but is used to roll on the back deck, to prevent chafing / scrubbing paint removal.

I love that this thread is still alive and useful! I still have that hard top sitting in hibernation waiting to go onto car #275 when she is ready. Going to be Sora blue with a white hard top :-)

Yes, those seals should work.

Good luck.

Looks like I should add this to the tech wiki. Excellent info. I miss quite a bit not on purpose.
