Re: Garm's 1969 project
I have to admit, looking at your tach and seeing the low redline was a little odd. I kept having to remind myself "Oh yeah it was a 1600"Garm wrote:haha, thanks that was fun!
"1600-ish" seems to be the keeper moniker, so it's staying for now.
Time for some gauges!
Nice avatar by the way.

The redline now is just after the needle stops moving.

It was more along the lines of "I'm driving a 1600. It should be falling on its face about now... oh wait, its not a 1600 and there is the cam..."Garm wrote:The redline now is just after the needle stops moving.

Garm: expect a nice black stain in the inside of your hood. Ask me how I know...

^ Already had a really nice stain there. I'll probably just go ahead and put in the ITG, I'm just being stubborn and resistant.
meanwhile... how about some adjustable Silk Road rear shocks, just in from Japan?
I didn't actually know they were Silk Roads until they arrived. (I have that brand on my Yaris suspension too, really nice stuff).

So, why is the silk road good? What makes it really nice stuff?

OK, so how does it compare to the appparent reigning king, the Koni's? (other than they appear to be available, where the koni's are not)

Re: Garm's 1969 project
1. Damping is adjustable from the side, without removing the shock.
2. Adjustable travel length allows tuning for any ride height.
3. Silk roads have really great compression and rebound characteristics.

How does the compression and rebound compare to the Koni's, and what do the Silk Roads cost??

Re: Garm's 1969 project
I don't have Konis for the rear, I can't compare. External adjustment alone is desirable enough. I got this set for $400, but I sometimes see them at $800 or more over there.
And yeah, there they were, brand new. You know how it goes.

Re: Garm's 1969 project
Ok I admit it; I'm stubborn and resistant sometimes, and I like my aesthetics.
I put the ITG filter on, including the breather hose.
Runs just fine, a mellower tone for sure (not quite as sweet to my ear as bare stacks), but with Santa Ana winds kicking up dust and leaves, I feel safer driving my "investment" around.
The thing knocks slightly on the clutch master, that is irritating.
I'm going to try filing the corner of the red plastic part a bit and see if I can get enough clearance.
