Water pump interchangeability?
Looking at a water pump that fits "Datsun 1300, 1400, 1600 (excluding USA), 510 Series 1969-72. Datsun 180B, SSS, (L16, L18 engines) 1972-77."
Would this fit a 1600 R-series motor?

Hi windy311 - that's a good tip - I've been researching and a site relating to Silvia's of the same era says that the H20 will fit too. I went to Repco and tried to buy a WP1754 'new water pump' (as per recommendation from http://dsoanews.tripod.com/non_gen_66_1600.htm - down bottom of page), but unfortunately they only had the crappy GMB unit saying they no longer make the repco product. Anyway, I brought the unit home and it appears completely different to what I've got... arrrgh. Maybe they put the wrong pump in the box.. who knows... Have you heard of this non-genuine replacement before?

Rob - thanks for your info - it saved me a lot of grief. I swapped the pump I bought (the WP754) for a WP844, which is the pump for the Urvan and you're right it's the correct one. Can't understand why that other site lists that other part number ??? Anyway once again thanks so much for the info. She STILL runs hot after a flush and new coolant and new pump - so now it's time to take the radiator out and get it cleaned out properly!! Hopefully that'll solve the problem...

If the radiator does not solve the problem, the cooling jackets in the block could be scaled up. Not a fun thing to deal with...

Hmmm thanks for the harrowing thought. I've already flushed the block and radiator with an alkaline salt solution and it came out pretty clean after running the motor for 30 minutes. The radiator gets pretty hot so there's definately hot water coming through the block, the thermostat seems to open right on cue as well - so I'm really hoping it's just a blockage in the radiator... I may bight the bullet and get a re-core of a 3 core depending on the prognosis I get after cleaning... I'm staying optimistic though.
