Relative newcomer here
My name is Randy Lewis. I have been a member here for a little while but have only posted a few times. I own a 1967 1/2 1600 that I am doing a body off frame restoration on. I'm now looking at a 1966 1600 that I will likely purchase this weekend. I'm wondering how similar these two cars will be mechanically. I know some body panels are different but am not sure if I can use the 66 as a road map for my 67 1/2 which at this point is a 1000 piece jigsaw puzzle. The 67 1/2 was an Oregon car the 66 was a Colorado car. I bought both cars where I live in Scottsdale, Arizona. Any information would be very much appreciated. I'd also like to be in contact with other AZ Roadster owners. Thanks!

Thanks for the resources you listed. Still looking for mechanical differences in addition to those resources you listed. Will be adding pics as soon as I take delivery of the 66 and the 67 1/2 returns from paint (2-weeks).

Mechanically, they are very similar. Some of the hardware is different because that was when the transition to metric hardware began. Any specifics you are wondering about?

I love that red in the first shots. What color red is it?

Re: Relative newcomer here
That is a fantastic paintjob!
There are a few 67 1/2 owners in AZ so I bet you could take a look at their cars. I don't know where they are exactly, but it's a small state, right?
The brakes are different, wiring is different, and a few other minor things, but mechanically they are close. Of course you will need two wrench sets for the 1/2 year.
Cheers
James

That paint looks sharp, looking forward to pics of it back together.

Re: Relative newcomer here
A little update on my 66 and 67 1/2 Roadster projects. After rebuilding both carbs on the 66, installing new battery and cables and draining and refilling fuel tank, it's alive. Still needs some minor tweeking, but nothing major. The 67 1/2 will be delivered back to my garage this coming Tuesday. Here's a new picture with the doors mounted and the wheels on. Oh, someone asked about the color. The color is a Lexus color called Matador Red Mica (Sorry Kevin, my wife just had to have that color after seeing your mom's car the last two years in Williams).
