Just a tip, you are going to want to clean up those parking lights, I think you might have a problem with grounds if you leave it painted over like that - maybe not, but it wouldn't hurt to get ahead on that before reassembly.

Stopped by the shop the other day after having been away for a month.. zero progress, the mechanic working on the swap was one of those flaky artist types.. making a change.

My attempt at taking a picture of the paint in the sun... paint isn't buffed out yet, but looks awesome.


Stainless fender bolts from Dean, looks cool unpainted.

KA mount kit should be coming in tomorrow (Thanks to Gerardo), and rubber mounts the day after (from Dean) thanks for shipping things so quickly for us.. The shop doing the work is having a grand opening car show on the 2nd, so they're rushing to finish the car. New mechanic, and I'll hopefully have time to come by and help turn some wrenches (or soldering wires).

Just writing to vent.


Things are progressing.. paint is done, interior is done... some bits still need to go to chrome..

Going through the ka24de. did a leakdown. it's got some age. 8%, 13%, 12%, 12% - encouraging.

Got the flywheel machined, new clutch going in.

AAAHHH!!! (lots of hair pulling).. bad part:

PO cut the motor mounts off the frame.. left gaping holes in the frame! welded some nasty tabs to mount the a14 (really could have left the original mounts). Lots of welding and cutting recently on the frame (with the body on!), Chucks66 graciously came to the rescue again. I thought I had pictures, but nope.

seriously thinking about dual side drafts (45mm? - 40 too small?) with crank triggered ignition.. would solve my wiring headache.. but would probably have to custom build a manifold.. but need to find a steel KA intake flange that I can hack up since I don't tig weld. Maybe a project for another day. Really bummed I didn't make it to AZ this past weekend.

We didn't think it looked right either, so we changed it up a bit.. here is the result.

New brake lines on Monday night..



Also on Monday night I made a decision on the intake. And last night, the motor went in.



Put the motor in to do some measurements for a dual weber 45 DCOE setup.. old intake is off to copy the intake flange, we're gonna try to waterjet one. Now in search for a used Electromotive HPX/HPV-1 to do the crank triggered ignition.

Fun stuff! As mentioned, I know that a side draft intake was made for the engines, at least for the 12 valve. One of the fastest cars I've seen at PI Raceways ran a 12 valve motor with big Mikunis on it. Had no problem blowing past Corvettes on the straights. I hear you on the crank fired ignition... Switching to megajolt over the winter...
