Finally getting around to introducing myself

Hello to all,

My name is Rob Johnson and I live in Sewickley, PA. Sewickley is just outside of Pittsburgh. I have been on the site now for about 6 months and have found tons of helpful information that i used in getting my 1970 1600 back together. Thanks to all of you who post useful information and to those of you who directly responded to some of my inquiries. I just recently had the pleasure of driving the roadster for the first time. I came across it by storing it in my garage for a good friend of mine who was in the process of putting it back together. Long story short, he sold it to me about a year ago. The motor was in pieces and had recently returned from the machine shop. The only major change that was involved is that he found a cast iron head to replace the cracked aluminum head. It has been a long but exciting process to get it back on the road. I took it out for my first drive ever on Friday and I have to say i am hooked. I grew up in Michigan with many family members working for General Motors. I have always been a GM guy, but I have to say the roadster is a lot of fun. She runs great. Looking forward to enjoying it with what’s left of the nice weather and plan on doing some bodywork and interior work over the winter. She is pretty solid.

Welcome. That is one nice looking car. Is your vent under the windshield chromed? I think I like that look.

It is chromed. I didn't realize that it is different. I assumed they were all they way.

Nice car, and the wheels work well. You will have to change your name though... as a Seahawk fan I still hold a grudge about that superbowl!!!

It is chromed. I didn't realize that it is different. I assumed they were all they way.

They were painted the same color as the body when the came fro the factory. A roadster trivia question is, "Exactly where was the vent grill located when it was painted?"

Just look for the ghost of it in original paint cars, under the vinyl!
And WOW, you car looks great. It's a 1600, but you have a 2000 grill?

Thanks. I did not realize that the grill is from a 2000. Just wondering, how can you tell the difference if i ever come across one and feel like changing it. I kind of like the way it looks now. I feel pretty luck that it is in pretty good shape. The driver side front fender has some rust at the very bottom and a large dent in the top. The rest of the car is really solid.

I like the looks of the 2000 Grill too. Easiest way to tell is the "D" in the center, the 1600 is plain and does not have anything on the grill..

Hey Rob. Welcome! I'm in the south hills. There is another in Upper st Clair and some one else in butler.
Glad to hear you have your car back together. I'm working on tracing some wiring issues, mainly brake lights, and turn signals, to get this rat inspected and on the road.

The center bars of the grill differ between the 2000 and the 1600; the 2000 has 2 wider stainless bars and 3 thinner blacked out (or stainless) ones spaced close together in the center; 1600 grill have 3 wider and evenly spaced bars and no "D".
