Hello from Ohio

Post by Copterpilot »

I posted to this webiste last month to get ideas on how to transport my car, but I forgot to introduce myself. My name is Brian and I'm an EMS helicopter pilot (retired Coast Guard pilot) in the Toledo, OH, area. My brother gave me his roadster as he doesn't have time (or money) to so anything with it. Its a 1968 2000. I'm told it ran 7 years ago when it went in for some body work and paint. The painter has had it since then and is just now painting it. It should be ready for transport next week (I hope).

I'll admit I'm a newbie when it comes to putting the Roadster back together and getting it running properly, so I'll be leaning on all of you and your combined expertise. These are the things I think I'll have to do when I get it:

Clean out the gas tank and fuel lines
Clean out the carbs
Go through the brake system
Polish or rechrome the trim and bumpers
Put the top and all the trim on
Find and fix an electrical short which drains the battery
Clean the interior
Get new carpet
Maybe rustproof the floor pans and trunk

Does anyone have any other ideas of things I should do? I plan on using it as a daily driver.

Welcome, the paint looks really nice!
You have a great project, with a good start. Since the car is apart, I would address the floorboards so that when you put the interior in, it's all done.
Otherwise your list is good, though I'd leave the cosmetic stuff until youhave it driveable.
Gas, brakes, carbs, all fluids and grease the 24 or so zerks (grease fittings) through out the car.
Good luck and ask away with your questions!

I also just bought a '68, but I wish my paint looked as good as that!

Good to see another Buckeye on this site. I will have to come check it out some weekend as I go through that area a lot in the summer on my way to Port Clinton. I have a place on the Portage River there. If you ever get down to AOH stop in for coffee. I am there every weekday. I have a maintenance shop east of terminal building. I drive my 67.5 to work a lot in the summer, good excuse to drive it more. Good luck with your project.

Terry,
We would definitely be on the way to Port Clinton and you'd be welcome anytime. I'm hoping to have the car shipped down here soon. I'm anxious to get started on it. I'm currently trying to get my home projects completed so I can work on the car. Do you have any pictures of yours that you can post?

I have taken a few photos but have not gotten around to post them yet. No beauty queen but runs very good, no issues. Take that back, speedo quit the other day and have not gotten around to trouble shoot but GPS tells my speed for now.

A while back you were asking about getting some things rechromed. Today I received my grille back from J&P Custom Plating in Portland Ind. It is NICE! $350.00 and worth every penny. I will be sending them my bumpers soon. If your interested their # is 260-726-9696 They have an ad in Hemmings also.

Terry, Thanks for the number. Are you still driving to Port Clinton occasionally? It would be great if you could stop by and give me some pointers.

Dave, Maybe next spring, after I get my car in road condition we can all meet somewhere.

I also have more pictures under the title "Roadster finally arrived" if anyone's interested. I have since started the motor which needs some tuning and drove it around the block. Only the front brakes work, but I couldn't help myself!

Well, if the front of the car stops, then the back, by nature, will also stop.
