From what I can tell, it was California owned pre-1975. A friend's father purchased it that year and brought it to Michigan where he drove it for about the next 15 years. Since then, it's been sitting in his garage. Lots of "patina" on the body panels and chrome. The interior is a mess. I fear what bile lurks within the gas tank. And here I am, never having touched a carbed engine or done much more than brakes, oil changes, and tune-ups.
Welcome! Looks like a very do-able project. Post away, we'll help where we can!
I can't believe that this has survived in MI this long. probably very good it stayed in the garage as long as it has.
"When all else fails, force prevails!" Ummm, we're gonna need a bigger hammer here.

Thanks! From the lurking I've done for the past week, it seems like a small yet tight-knit community. I've browsed the TechWiki and started contemplating where to go from here but I might make a thread about it (to the chagrin of more veteran posters who have seen this type of post one-hundred times before).

Just got mine 3 weeks ago. I am just west of Ann Arbor so we are not far apart. I am a newbie to the Datsun's.
Stay in touch.
Yeah, I think we might be the only two Datsun Sports owners down here. I'm just south of Detroit and used to live out in A2/Ypsi and the girlfriend's family live out in Jackson so the I-94 corridor is quite familiar to me.
Looks a lot better than mine does. Wish my fenders looked as nice. I'm over here in Canada about 40 miles from Detroit. It will be a while before my 1600 does the Woodward Dream Cruise though.
Best of luck with the project. She'll be a beauty.

How many different sets of carbs will fit on the U20? A shot of my engine is below. The PO took off the air filter (not sure why) and kept it in the trunk.
Those are SU carbs. They look a bit Crusty but are probably just fine. You may want to open the float bowls (the smaller "tanks" on the carbs) and clean them out as they can collect water when sitting.
And don't worry too much about reposting or asking questions that have been asked before... we generally don't flame folks, new or old, for asking questions! We might direct you to such n such in the Wiki, but we always strive to be helpful. This really is a great community with a wonderful heart for our cars and their owners, so welcome to the Roadster world... it's a nice place to be!
